Top Powell am Jake Bradley is said
to be recovering slowly but surely from
a major accident in which he cracked
his head on a curb after getting mow-
ed down by a couple on a tandem
bike. A benefit contest will be held

In Raleigh, SC, civic skaters
ON BOARD
Thomas Johnson, Patrick Long and Andy
Slaughter spotted a shoplifter fleeing a store
in the Fayetteville Street Mall. Eager to help
their community, the boys hopped on their
sticks and pursued the thug to a house,
where he was apprehended by the police
(the same cops, in fact, who had just kicked
the skaters out of the mall). Their act was a
positive blow for the skate cause, but unfor "We're a male-centered company"

later by the death of their bro, David P.
Martin, who was hit by a car while skating
on his own street. Our condolences go out
to David's family and friends. Hopefully the
rumors of a public skatepark in David's name
are true.

Another bizarre and tragic incident occur-
red recently in Albuquerque, NM. Peter and
David Alvarado were sessioning a drainage
ditch near their new house when a three-foot
wall of flood water from mountain storms
came down the chute and swept them away.
Seven miles down, rescuers managed to
save David, but, despite the efforts of almost
one hundred people, Peter was lost to the
30+ mph current. At least ten people-four
police officers, four fire fighters and two
onlookers-were injured after they jumped
