really pissed. My dad threatened to
saw my board in half (he didn't). He
threatened me many times afterward
too. Finally we laid down some rules,
one of which was that he promised
never to saw my deck in hall. Two
days ago I came home late and my
parents really got pissed. When I ex-
plained why I was late, my dad took
my board and started to walking his
workshop. I yelled out the door to him
reminding him that he promised
never to cut my deck in half. He stop
ped and turned and smiled at me.
About thirty minutes passed, then he
came back in and threw my deck at
my feet. When I looked down. I
couldn't believe my eyes-he had
sawed my trucks and wheels in two.
He just smiled and said, "Now you
won't be late any more, will you?"
Boy, parents can be really weird at
times. The thing they don't know is
that I have an extra set of wheels and
trucks tucked away in my room.

OLD MADE
Unfortunately, I started skating
nine months ago and I'm fifteen now,
I can do hurricanes and kickflips, so
basically I'm a quick learner. My
friend at were skating at White Pine
Middle School (the best place to
skate in Saginaw) and these ten- or
eleven-year-old skaters came along.
I was stoked on how quick and stylish
these young ones were. They were
moving about, doing wall plants and
kickflips. Nowadays kids that age are
all over the place and kickin' If I were
you, I'd watch these kids and learn
from their quickness and fluidity. I
regret starting late, but I'll still try as
hard as possible.

TV PHD
Today I was flipping through the
128 channels I get on cable and as
I went past channel 15, I heard the
name Robert Williams. Well, for
some reason I recognized the name
so I flipped it back to the channel (it
happens to be MTV) and they were
talking to Robert Williams. I
recognized him as the guy who was
in Thrasher before. They showed
some of his art-il was cool. See,
skateboarding teaches you stuff.

chusetts, to Silver Spring, Maryland,
about six months ago. I recently
called my friend in Lexington and
found out they banned skating there.
and it a cop sees you skating he'll
take your board and fine you $25.
We're planning to move back to Lex-
ington in a year. The first thing I'm
going to do when I get back is go to
City Hall and get my board taken
away and get fined $25. We go to
school and say the Pledge of
Allegiance, but at the end of it I say
"with liberty and justice for all (ex-
cept skaters)."

Please send us a set of your ramp
plans. We plan to build one of your
large one-half pipes under our
chicken coops. We'll put holes in the
nests and in the bottom of the coop
floor so the newly laid eggs fall down
the vertical surface and roll out to the
center to be picked up by our collec-
tion crew. Do you think we'll be rich
and famous?

DANNY
My son Danny was killed last
month in a skating accident. No, a
drunk driver didn't smash into him,
no pig" was trigger happy. Danny
did not attempt an acid drop off a
forty-foot cliff. We're not exactly sure
what happened. As far as we can tell,
he was simply doing tricks on the
driveway, landed wrong somehow,
and cracked his skull on one of the
sprinklers lining our driveway When
I came home, he had already died
of a massive loss of blood.
Danny had just bought the March
issue of Thrasher and was thrilled to
see the article on the Powell Peralta
Australian extravaganza. He had
heard of previously and had
wanted to go. If we had had the
money we would have sent him. His
main interest was Tony Hawk, a fine
ramp skater. Danny did nothing but
eat, breathe and sleep Tony Hawk
He cut out articles, ordered Hawk
posters/paraphernalia, talked about
him at the dinner table and viewed
Bones Brigade videos until his eyes
fell out. But more than any of this.
Danny skated. It was his knowledge
of skating, his pure enjoyment of
skating that led him to admire Tony
Hawk, not the other way around.
Danny was no poser.
On the very last page of that March
issue, there was a Powell Peralta ad
featuring Tony Hawk. Danny ran into
my office one afternoon with the ad.
"I must have it!" he cried. He de-
cided to save up for it, and figured
it would take about a month. His
birthday was coming up in about one
week, however, so his father and I
decided to get it for him as a surprise.
Two days later he was dead.
We did not have a memorial ser
vice for Danny. Instead we held a
celebration of his life at which his
favorite food was skarled, his favorite
music played (at top volume, much
to the distaste of the neighbors), and
at which we presented Danny's best
pal Ricky with the new Hawk deck
A mass session followed.
Thank you, Tony, for inspiring my
son. Danny used to tell me that he
wanted to fly like the Hawk some
day." Perhaps he is doing that now?
I'd like to think so. To all you kids with
wheels, please know that there are
at least two parents out here, and
one soul up there, who are behind
you one-hundred percent
