From the Henry Rollins camp, it seems old Hank has recently returned from
the UK, where he completed work on a Henry Rollins Band Lp. produced
by none other than lan MacKaye. Also, Rollins and bassist Andrew Weiss
have been recording a project described as a cross between Trouble Funk
and Black Sabbath. Finally, Rollins is recording a single with Tom Tricolli
(of Tom Tricolli's Dog fame) for release on Texas Hotel, the proceeds from
which will be going to battered women and children....While the Cro-Mags
are currently recording a new album entitled Near Death Experience, ax-
eman Kevin Mayhew is spending time guesting in Underdog....Uniform
Choice members Pat Duber and Pat Longrie have begun to play with their
ex-Unity bandmates Joe Foster and John Low in a side project dubbed
Winds of Promise....After breaking up last year because of a disagree-
ment over signing a major label contract, Rasta-rockers Bad Brains have
finally regrouped, this time with ex-Cro-Mag/Urban Blight drummer Mackle
and a new vocalist by the name of Taj Singleton. Meanwhile, HR and Earl
continue with the HR band, who are recording another record for SST....On
their next tour of the U.S., L.A. speedmetal technicians Megadeth will be
supported by crossover innovators DRI. The members of DRI, by the way,
have started their own record label and will be releasing their previously
released debut Ep with added "Violent Pacification" tracks and a new

cover...Ex-Youth of Today (who reportedly will be reforming in the months
to come) bassist and guitarist Walter and Porcell, respectively, have joined
up with members of the NYC hardcore outfit Side by Side to form the
ultimate straight edge band" known as Project X. A 7" Ep has been releas
ed on Schism Records, featuring such ditties as "Straight Edge Revenge"
and "Dance Floor Justice". Most of the time when you think of bouncer
brutality you think of what goes on between club employees and club patrons
But every now and then situations crop up between bands and employees,
as was the case when The Goo Goo Dolls played at The Limelight in NYC
The band was told they'd be playing a full set, but five or so songs into it
the electricity was cut, the lights went on, and the dance music blasted. Usual-
ly after the set is over, the drummer thrashes his kit a la Keith Moon. After
he did so this time, he looked up to see a bouncer's fist smash into his face.
At press time the band had just filed a lawsuit against the club. Apparently
the club has a history of treating bands poorly, but this is the first time mal-
ters have escalated to such heights....ROCK AND ROLL BOARD SLIDES
It's not skate rock, but all the members of Worked World skate. Neil Blender
pounds bass and sings, Hagop plays guitar and leads the vocals, and Fast
Eddy pummels the skins. Recent gigs around the L.A. basin, including
Fenders in Long Beach, have showcased their three-piece jam. Hagop plays
a Rickenbacker and plugs into a mean Vox full-stack. Paul Weller Jr., or
what?...Shadowland (don't let the 70s-style name fool you) is on the verge
of signing with Geffen Records after only eight gigs around LA. Band member
Brent Rademaker was a familiar face on the Florida skat scene, where
he home parked at Sensational Basin and ran around with Alan "Ollie"
Gelfand. He also helped build the infamous Hollywood ramp and toured
the states with Jim Goodrich (whoa!) and Steve Anderson (team Krypto)
in '79. Look for these guys to bust out bigtime, real soon....Former skate
hog. Terry Nails, is now working with Motley Crüe and pining for a job at
Rip mag....Last and least: Grace Slick, vocalist for the Starship and the
Jefferson Airplane for 22 years, announced she will be leaving the group.
Grace once drained her pool so Starship guitarist Craig Chaquico could
skate down, and then wrote at song about it called "Skateboard" (I drained
my pool for that fool.). She says of her departure, "I'm 48. How long can
I jump around stage?" Well, Grace, you can empty your pool for us anytime.
