(From page 14) skate mags and watch
others. We talked for about twenty
minutes and when we were about to
leave, a little girl emerged from the
huddle with her hand extended, fist
closed, palm down. "Here!" she ex-
claimed. Into my hand she dropped
a quarter and a nickel, "Thanks for
being nice to us and talking to us!"
"It's all we have," replied the
others. I was speechless-I cried.
These kids couldn't have been more
than seven or eight, but in all my
years (24), I have never felt as good
about anything I have done, as I did
that day Kids, you're great!!! Thanks

Of course you kept the change,
thereby ruining any amateur status
you may have had. Welcome to the
pros. Ted
FISH STORY
Last week I went on vacation to
Disneyland with my Lucero board.
Boy, can I ollie. I ollied so high I went
over the roller coaster and landed at
Knott's Berry Farm. I heard applause
and I looked around and I was at the
dolphin show!

DIRTY DOG
The bite of the metal grind against
raw concrete curbs and coping-to
hell with plastic. Raising terror and
havoc in the dark of night. Sweat
and dirt. Have we forgotten our
raw, gut intensity for skating? Or is
it now clean and polished? I'll just
skate alone in the dark, with grinds,
dirt and sweat.

ALL BROKEN UP
This is in regard to Andy Mills, the
guy who, along with his friend, broke
more decks than skate shops own.
What up with you, man? Where do
you get off telling companies that
they suck? If it weren't for them, we'd
still be riding 2x4's with roller skate
trucks on em. You can't blame com-
panies for your bad skating. Either
you're 300 lbs. or you don't bend your
knees when you land. Or, you and
your buddy were unlucky 16 times
and bought bogus decks, but that's
highly unlikely. My friends and I have
been riding the same decks for this
whole summer, doing bonelesses
and ollies. One board cracked, but
that was because a car ran it over.
Look, guy, I ain't gonna bitch at you
anymore 'cuz you might be a kid or
a new skater. Don't take "skate and
destroy" too literally. Change the way
you skate and you'll be much happier
with the boards and money you save.
Flex 'dem knees.

IRONING BOARDS, MAYBE
In regards to Andy Mills, HE'S
RIGHT! C'mon you guys get up off
your asses and make some better
boards.

I just wanted to say if Andy thinks
it's the companies' fault that he has
broken 16 (a lot) sticks, he's screw-
ed. It sounds like he needs to learn
to land on his board right. My best
friend is an avid skater of two-and-a-
half years; he's broken two. I've
skated for a year and a half and
haven't broken any. A word of advice.
try landing on the bolts of your trucks.
It helps.

Anyone else care to comment on this
board breakage controversy? Ted
A TRUE PRO
This is to thank Natas for coming
to a recent contest in Pensacola, FL
I would also like to apologize for a
very rude crowd that didn't seem to
appreciate him showing up, all the
way from California. He even had a
hurt ankle and still skated. Thanks

TAYLOR MADE?
Yesterday, while we were nukin' a
hot dog in the microwave, we
witnessed an explosion. While we
were eating the charred remains I
said, "Hey, I think Converse could
use a color like this...but do you think
Chuck Taylor would approve?" By
the way, who the hell is CT.? I could
have sworn he was one of the found-
ing fathers of our nation, but that
theory has proved bogus! Many of us
escapees need to know, who is
Chuck Taylor?

Chuck Taylor is a former B-ball pro
who sold shoes for Converse back in
the fifties. Turns out Chuck sold so
many high-tops that they named the
model after him. Watch for a
