PATROL
I'm tired of asking companies for
that the Product Patrol is for them as
sample equipment. I'm tired of mak-well as the reader and skater. If you
ing calls and getting nothing in
return. If you are involved with a com-
pany, please try to explain to them
are a manufacturer that has sent
components for review, thanks. We
hope it has helped spread the word.
This month we received several
quality decks, along with some new
trinkets and accessories.
To start, you may remember we
reviewed the mini Sam Cunningham
from Blockhead a few issues back.
Blockhead now introduces the new
Jim Gray model. Like the Mini Sam,
it has an excellent stain and concave.
This is a high quality board that's also
available in two sizes. The larger is
10" x 30" and the mini is 9" x
29%. This deck has the same tail
design as the Cunningham, a dou-
ble kick, slight behind the truck but
increasing in angle toward the rear.
It also features front wheel wells and
solid laminates. It is good to see a
smaller company put out quality
decks. Sometimes we are so bom-
barded by the hype from "mega"
companies that we have a hard time
seeing the quality through the trends.

Same size, same durometer, same
good wheel, but Hosoi Rockets from
Santa Cruz now come with new
graphics. For info on this and other

From Seldner Industries we
received some components that
most people don't really shop around
for, but they are nonetheless well
worth asking about. Pro Grinders are
the most interesting of the products
sent by Seldner: they are bi-grade
(nylon/plastic) copers with a nut/bolt
attachment system so they won't
come off. They're not the thickest,
but they definitely fit over just about
any truck on the market.
Seldner also sent rails, which
come in two shapes-one is square,
one more trapezoidal. They both
have the same hole pattern, which
makes them interchangeable. They
slide forever and wear out slowly, so
they are sure to be popular (if enough
stores carry them).
We also received the Seldner
nose grab, which is a lot like a rail
but made for the front of the board
and those heavy nose grab tricks.
One problem, though, is that wood
screws come with it and they don't
handle impact as well as T-bolts.
Anyway, ask your shop if they carry
them or inquire at Seldner, 1609 21st
Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
Whilst travelling through Seattle,
I came across A.L.D.E.D.L.Y. rails.
They come in interesting colors and
sizes, and they seem to be pretty
popular up north. They looked to be
speckled or multi-colored; I couldn't
decide which. The larger four-holed
model looks good, with nice size and
shape, but the smaller three-hole pat-
tern seems kind of ridiculous, as it's
so short and heavy. A.L.D.E.D.LY,
23906 S. 6th Ave., West Mount Lake
Terrace, WA 98155.
A new truck bushing innovation from
Motobilt came our way recently. It's
called the Moto Vert bushing and is
designed with big vert skaters in
mind. Because it is extremely hard,
at 975 shore, it should improve the
stability in whatever truck you're
riding, providing you sacrifice some
turning capabilities. One size fits all
makes of trucks and doesn't squish

out the sides of the hanger seat
because there is an extra ring of
urethane around the base. Probably
worth a try, from: Motobilt, 19803
Almaden Rd., San Jose, CA 95720.
Not long ago we reviewed Mark
Lake's Nightmare from Walker. Well,
now Mark Lake has gone his own
way, making his own boards. The
new line is different from the "old"
boards, particularly in their shapes.
The concave is similar, though-
smooth and slightly dished through
the tail for premium foot placement.
The new and improved Lake models
have been strengthened with 7-ply
hard rock maple and now feature all
new truck to truck graphics. The
board we tested was the Lake Mini.
It comes with a "notched" nose and
Nightmare type tail for good hand
and foot placement. It is 29" long and
9" wide, has a 3" nose. 5% tail
and a 15" wheel-base. More on these
decks later. Lake Skates, 7800
Industrial St., West Melbourne, FL
32901.
Of the letters I received this month.
the majority are asking about what
trucks fit on what boards or what
wheels are best for the street. Look
at it like this: If a board says "street."
it will tend to be smaller, so smaller
trucks tend to be more responsive
and quicker turning. On wheels, if
you ride ramps only, or metal, or
pools, 97s are the wheels for you. If
you slide street and occasionally
ramps, use 95s. If you cruise only the
streets, 90s to 92s rip. If you live
where there is really rough pave-
ment, gnarly ditches and cracks in
the sidewalk, 85s to 88s will smooth
your roll. Rails will protect your street
decks from wearing into nothing and
make some tricks easier, especially
r'n roll board slides. Also, try to use
T-bolts for installing all plastic.
because they are easy to replace and
last much longer. Write to me and tell
me your story. THRASHER Maga-
zine, c/o Jake, PO Box 884570, San
Francisco, CA 94188-4570.1
