in skateboarding because I want it to thrive.
So whatever I do in the future will be to help
it thrive. Twenty years from now I want to
be in perfect health, I'd like to live comfort-
ably. I hope to keep open-minded, to still
understand and relate to the youth. I don't
want to be called an old crab. Not to forget
those people who are important to me now.
I don't want to have to feel that I've burned
a lot of bridges. I still want to be able to skate
half-pipes, and I will.
Who would you say are your favorite
bands.?
The Beatles, Stranglers and the
Adolescents.
Why?
For obvious reasons. Sounds speak
louder than words.
How do you perceive people in general,
outside of your peers?
I see people limiting themselves. They
should give new things more of a chance.
They should slow down a little bit, about
figuring out their interests and dabble a lit-
tle bit in different things. It's really hard to
say what people are like, but from what I've
seen through brief contacts throughout the
world, a lot of people condemn a lot of things
for reasons of security. Which is okay, I
guess. Like a blue tangerine-it's beautiful,
but it's out of place. To analogize it, most
people are like blades of grass bending with
the wind, but if you're a stronger element
you're gonna be growing into the sun, which
is probably in the opposite direction, holding
fast against the wind. People shouldn't be
mirrors, reflecting what is there. Cloning.
What areas would you like to learn more
about?
Politics, probably. It's important to know
about the people who are ruling the land.
Their character. I'd like to know about
botany. Carnivorous plants are great. I have
a Venus Fly Trap at home. I'd like to learn
about law, physiology. Humans aren't all-
knowing and I think people pass judgement
on other people too much. People are too
quick to generalize. Observe, don't con-
demn. So many things go unobserved
these days, like the beauty of things.
Ken Park, I like to hang with. He's a per-
son I can identify with. Most people don't
know him like I do, but he's got a wise man's
opinion of a lot of things.
Could you condense several of your feel-
ings in a closing comment sort of way?
If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
I'm glad to be involved in a sport where the
level of progression is infinite. I have a lot
to say, and I don't think an interview can
encompass it all. I hate barriers. If you ever
run into me on the street, at a demo, on the
pot, or doing the "limo-slam" out on the
dance floor, just stop a while, throw some
words at me and I'll talk to you because I
like to rap
