The Beastie Boys are real stoopid def, yeah? They
make records that you really want to hear. The
funniest most dumb shit you could love. "While
you're at the job working 9 to 5, the Beastie Boys
are at the Garden cold-kickin' it live." Whether
you know it or not you really do want
to be as ill as the Beastie Boys are.
The Beastie Boys have been
around for about 4 or 5 years. Their
current line-up consists of I
MCA and King Ad-rock. When
they
first got together they were a really
cool hardcore punk band-but the
scene in New York was becoming a
little hard for its own good, as the
Beastie's saw it. The punks were only
trying to prove who was "harder"
than anyone else. At this same time,
in true E
ue Beastie Boy tradition, during
live shows they would throw mar-
shmallows out at everyone in their
audience to let them know they en-
joyed being "soft" and anything but
the same as the rest. MCA remem-
bers those hardcore days: "It started
as a joke, but it wasn't taken that way.
That was the funny part of it."
"Cookie Puss," became kind of an
underground hit, the Beastie Boys
became very involved in the real rap
scene in New York. It wasn't long
before they hooked up with Run-
D.M.C's manager Russel Simmons
and D.J. Double R (Rick Rubin) and
their interest in punk was turning
more toward rap. The Beasties
always thought rap and punk were
actually very similar, both coming
from bored kids talking shit to anyone
and everyone about anything and
everything, VERY LOUD. But with
the Beastie Attitude you had to know
it was going to be serious, if anything
would probably be some of the
dumbest shit ever done.

So now they make the killer rap
records. They are the only white rap-
pers who are respected for their
recordings both by the hardcore
homeboy rappers in the cities and
new rap fans in the suburbs. A fact
made more evident when Madonnal
chose them as the opening act on
her recent nationwide tour. The punk
energy and self-mockery, along with
an incredible creative sense, definite-
ly prove you'll be hearing a lot from
these crazy-stoopid-white-boy-
rappers from New York.
