I've got a problem. Wheels. They don't
last. I've been skating about 4 months and
my 2nd set of wheels is almost totaled. My
back truck is practically dragging the street
My first set of wheels were street wheels
(85A) and they coned out in 2% months. I
got 90As and they're great, but the scene
here is pretty flat so I do a lot of slides. Can
you suggest some good fast wheels that
will last?

As a general rule, fast wheels don't
last, so you have to sacrifice for
something a little better. Take Indy or
fast Formula I racing tires for instance,
they don't even last one full race, and
they cost much more than your average
car tires. If your wheels last two to four
months then I'd say you're doing okay.
Especially considering the type and
amount of riding being done these days.

SMALLER, BETTER?
I recently went to a pro demo and some
of the skaters were riding freestyle wheels.
What I was wondering was, do freestyle
wheels hold up good in the street (they
would be ridden everyday) and would they
be faster and make the board lighter?

A lot of pros ride freestyle wheels
because they provide quicker accelera-
tion through the transitions, but you
may not get the kind of performance
you would with a regular pool wheel.
Less surface contact also is a factor in
the speed department. As far as holding
up and lasting, they will tend to wear
out faster simply because they weren't
designed for that type of riding. Many
top wheel manufacturers are now
trimming down their wheel lines be-
cause of new demands by skaters.
POOL DAMAGE
I have been plagued with problems
stemming from being caught skating in a
private pool. With alleged damage to the
pool and the threat of possible criminal
trespassing charges. I feel helpless. The
damages could amount to 20,000 bucks,
a lot of green for a mere five minutes of

pool skating! Is this possible? Can a skate
really damage a pool that bad? Do you
have any new solutions to an age-old
problem of cops having time to hassle
innocent kids while real crimes are being
committed?

It is possible for a skate to cause
enough damage to a pool so that it might
need sandblasting or acid washing and
maybe a few tiles and sections of coping
replaced. But as far as this much damage
being done in a five minute session, it's
very unlikely. For $20,000 you could build
a pool. What I think we have here is a case
of the owners being pissed-off about you
skating and attempting to get you to take
the rap for their previously damaged
pool. Another point to note is why the
pool was drained in the first place. Most
likely it was already in need of an acid
wash or some other maintenance.
GOOD IDEAS DEPT.
Here's a couple of mentionable ideas
but nothing quite good enough for
winner of the month status.
I have an answer for "Wishing No Wells.
What you do is flip through this mag and
find a company that sells blank, uncut
decks. When you get it cut the shape that
you want, with or without wells, throw on
your trucks and shred.

Here's a solution to all you guys and gals
out there with hole-y heel problems. If you
have holes in the rubber part of your shoe
what you do is take some of your pop's
general purpose sealant and put a glop of
it on the shoe. Spread it around and put
some tape over it. Let is sit for about 30
minutes and take off the tape, just like new!
It's better than shoe repair because it's white
and you hardly notice.
