Edgework. Don Fisher works dangerously close to the slanted lips
of the "Glory Hole" in northern California.
PIPES!!!
Burly like huge pipes. Not just
big pipes. I mean HUGE
PIPES! Twenty-five feet or bet-
ter. Some have been found that
are 30 feet in diameter. If there
is such a thing as "thick air"
it is stored in these gargan-
tuan, perfectly circular transi-
tioned caverns of cement. A
certain 28 foot pipe in Texas
actually turns skyward, form-
ing a huge elbow-like, bowled
cement flume. A similar 'Glory
Hole' in NorCal is 30 ft. in
diameter and has been a verti-
cal tradition for years. Thrust
till you're dust cuz you won't
even stick to the wall when you
fall from over vertical and tri-
ple overhead. If the power you
tap gets the best of you, your
shock waves will rush away to
eventually return as the sound
of your own impact when
you
begin to feel its effects.
The beginning of the end, drop in and die, the Glory Hole source.
BURLYQUE
Burly like a 30 foot deep
(drained) swimming pool in
the middle of the desert: The
Leisure bowl. It used to be
part of a scuba diving school.
Climbing in and out on an old
garden hose, creates an added
risk and a close-up inspection
of the 15 ft. of vertical wall. Sun
rays are amplified by the bright
white walls, creating scalding
temperatures in the neighbor-
hood of 120° as you nervously
await your turn to either drop
in or drop dead. You could go
as high as you wanted and yes
-there was tile and coping.
HOT DAM
Burly like huge spillways. The
sheer mass of 'crete is only
half the story... the other half
deals with the intense speed
generated. Fall and you're
hamburger. Careening down
SEAP
Bigtime. Rick Blackhart pushes furlously
along the top of the legendary Uvis
spillway into a boardslide on the razor
lip then into a 16 foot bails to the wall
re-entry.
massive walls at speeds most
skaters wouldn't address even
without the harsh "click-clack"
transition. Composure is the
key to survival here. He who
hesitates is lost.
This is the stuff that legends
are made of in a "land of the
giants" where gay tricks are
discarded for arrogant, radi
cal moves in the face of true
POWER.
