Rob Fladen demonstrates a proper curb grind ap
proach
THE CURB GRIND
Make sure that you tighten your trucks
before you attempt to learn this. Try carving
up onto two wheels without a curb, to get
the feel of the proper approach technique.
Once you master this, you're already
halfway there.
1. Approach the curb at a slight angle and
apply the two wheel carving technique.
2. As your axles come in contact with the
curb edge, keep your weight in the direction.
of travel.
3. Stay slightly tucked and slide along the
top, as your trucks overlap the curb and
settle into a full 50/50 grinding position.
4. Keep your body centered and continue
to grind.
5. Next, you'll feel your momentum slow
down, compress and start to lean back.
6. Put pressure on your back foot and ride
back onto the flat ground.
"As you wear down your copers, (yes, it's
okay to scratch them), learning this ver-
satile street trick, try to grind longer or
higher curbs or try Smith stop grinds. Of
course, wear the proper safety equipment
and try to make as much noise as possible.
