CLEANSE THE BACTERIA
Pusmort Records
"Regress, No Way" by 7 Seconds
is the first entry on Cleanse the Bac
teris. A good song, but also a good
start for this, Pushead's first compl
lation, because REGRESS, this ro-
cord definitley don't. But, PROG-
RESS it definitely DO! Eighteen
bands, representing more than ten
countries, playing over one hour of
music, all on one record! A hell of
alot to compile and put into some
sort of order, but Pushead has done
it! This Lp seems to have a begin-
ning, a middle and an end, starting
with the above mentioned 7 Sec-
onds, thru The Instigators three ex-
cellent cuts, Executes sizzling guitar
solo, Poison Idea, Pushead's own
Septic Death, to the last cut by Ex-
trem. All the music fits together with
the common denominator being ex-
cellent sound quality and great per
formances. Lots of great music and
all for a low price.
THE FLAMING LIPS
LSD Records
Being from Oklahoma must do
wierd things to kid's minds. I have
proof-The Flaming Lips: Four guys
who play psycho style like I ain't
never heard in awhile. Influenced by
60's style feedback, and 80's style
Death Rock. Da lips' have found a
home, somewhere in between. Real
wrenching vocals by Mark Coyne.
His brother (I guess) Wayne, writes
the lyrics and plays guitar. The
songs "Bag full of Thoughts" and
"Forever is a Long Time," show the
bands psycho influence. The last
song on this record. "My own Plan-
et, is the best. Being faster than the
rest of the songs, it makes me want
to fip the record over and listen
again, but this might be considered
wierd, so maybe I should just go to
Oklahoma. No, I'll listen to my Flam-
ing Lips record instead
ISCREAMIN' SIRENS!

Enigma
OK, now I'm gonna say it. YA
HOOP Sorry, I just had to do that.
Cliche, y'know. This album is sooo
good, I had to recommend it to my
dad. He heard it, and he liked it. Way
kool, uhm-hmmneh. What in the hell
do the Screamin' Sirens sound like
anyways? Well, to get to the point,
they sound like some sort of mish-
mash of Blues, soul, reggae, Coun
try and Western and a smattering of
PUNK. Basically, all of these qual-
ities make this ten song ip easy to di-
gest. The song topics are the Kill,"
varying ever so slightly. They seem
to center on boys, men, love,
heartbreak, and raising hell (all with
some sort of sexual overtones or un-
dertones). Memorable favorites in-
clude; "Mr. T Luv Boogie." "He's in
the slam," "Love Slave," the vicious
guitar introon "Jim" by Rosiesets my
pants on fire and Marsky's violin
parts on "Rare and Darin" just melt
my heart. She even "Love Slaved"
me at their gig at the V.I.S. club in
San Francisco.

FRIGHTWIG
Cat Farm Faboo
Subterranean
Intensely burning noise in my
ears. Screeching, walking, plaintive
cries. From the beginning to end,
"Cat Farm Faboo is a window for
peeping Toms Frightwig have laid
bare their thoughts and experi
ences, singing about sex, spirit,
love, and the state of living in the
80's. Anyone expecting a nice girl
band can forget this album, these
women are tough. They live and sur-
vive, without taking any shit. "A
Man's Got to Do What a Man's Got
to
Do," is by far the most commercial
song on the LP. Snakefinger pro-
duced this cut and his influence is
evident. "Jen's Song," distorted, and
full of pain, resonates somberly,
bringing back all of life's experience
of losing someone precious, when
all is distorted and you don't know
who you are. Followed by 1 Got
Lost" which is strong, bass laden
and potent. The album doesn't cap-
ture the raw energy Frightwig has
when playing live, but it allows one
to sit back and really listen to what
these women are saying. There are
no outlandish false eyelashes to dis
tract from their content, all is bare
and open, to take what you want,
and leave what you don't need. A
couple of songs are weak, but that
doesn't detract from the album. I
think it shows a different side, that
we all are weak at times and no one
is consistently strong. An impressive
beginning to their World Domination
Tour.
