"Why do they have to build more?
"Parancia, My stick's bigger than your stick
and so forth. Let's find the guy whose supplying
the sticks. I feel that if there were anything to
ever think about, it would have to be your future.
Die naturally, instead of along with millions of
other people in one sweep. But, enough of this
happy talk. Let's progress," he said, his face)
flushing from his emotional barrage. My eyes
were opening more
It's just like how, when you said have we
ever fought one before, have you seen anyono,
a real old person, who used to skate hardcore?
It hasn't been around long enough. Who knows
what rad physical repercussions there'll be. We
will eventually, have examples."I was making a
point
Once it's around long enough. But it's still so
now that there's no predicting the future. You're
a pioneer, just as much as guys like Ty Page
"Skating will sl keep progressing, it'll always
be new, said.
"Eventually it will reach a limit, because,
physical abates can only be pushed/so-far. A
point where the innovations will be fewer, but
nevertheless, still exciting. An individual can
only propel himself, naturally, into the air just
so-far. You guys are going high now, but it a hard
to see much higher. Not on this terrain
What else do you think about?"
I think about alot, I think about what people
think about me
"O.K. Here's the question. What's the Tony
Hawk image as you see it, as opposed to the
Tony Hawk image that everybody sees you as?"
He was pulling the questions out of every pocket
I thought for a moment The average person
would say, for one, he's too skinny and that he
does alot of fake tricks, which are exagerrated
variations to basic tricks. Extra body english, too.
many twisty contortions. But some people see it
as new innovations. What I think of myself....I
thought a bit more, I just skate. I just want to
skate. Some people skate with an attitude, a
chip on their shoulder. Not me, I used to, though,
but I'm past that now. The interviewer decided
that this was enough for the night, and men-
tioned that he wanted to go over some more
stuff the next night.
The next day, we met at the park and he tried
to shoot some sequential stuff. Five minutes of
this and a total downpour ensued. Everything
got soaked within about thirty-three seconds, he
got real, real mad and aggravated. After about
twenty minutes, he decided that the rain wasm
going to let up, and said./"Let's go eat and finish
the interview We went to a restaurant called
the Chart House. Then, I made the statement,
there's alot of things I don't like
Like what?" he said
I don't like fake people. A person who tries to
act normally, when they want to act differently.
They act like they're trying to belong, when they
don't really want to act like that Conforming, so
they can be accepted. A few of the people I deal
with are like that. You know them, when you see
them. You can tell by the way they act
I don't like being dirty
"Or, dead, raw fish?" he said. A wise guy
That's one thing I really don't like at all. I like
tomatoes
The interviewer stabs his hand into his salad,
pulled out a very red, dripping moist tomatoe
slice, handed it to me and said. "Here This is my
gift to you. Don't say I've never given you
nothing, or anything neither. I know sometimes
It's hard to accept gifts."
"I guess it's the thought that counts, pon-
dered 1 try to accept as much as I can. Things,
or people that used to bother me before. I used
to let a get to me. But now, I just let it slide."
