Ah yes, perfect pools; kidney and key
hole shapes rideable into the shallow end:

It has been said that good things come to
those who wait, but, in the case of the all
too briefly dry backyard swimming pool, it
reads more like good things come to those
who don't hesitate
As with any utopian dream come true,
the quest and conquer of aqualess poot
terrain doesn't come without a price and
that price can cost you plenty, All said, and
certainly done; we ve butted some heads
together and come up with a little primer for
those who may have not yet sampled pool
vertical. All swimming pools have rules and
regulations posted and in effect during
swim times, but what about the dry runs.
Herewith, some of the unwritten rules and
rogs of pool skating...
1. Skate at your own risk. Certainly, Any
skater entering an unsupervised pool
session must realize the consequences of
said skate activities Liability is the number
one hanging concern of all pool owners.
Gaining permission to get upside down in
someones backyard is not easy. Of course
an unlawful trespass to gain access poses
even more problems. It is not uncommon
to be thwarted from your intentions by the
cops, dogs, neighbors or a guinbarreload of
rock salt.
2. Safety first/wear your protection
Slamtime severe hippers and coping
scrapes are a symptom of poolitis. Slam-
ming top to bottom from a twelve foot high
edge out is like jumping off your roof into a
face plant. You can bet there's not going to
be anybody there to pick up the pieces and
carry you away on a stretcher right away
either Curiously enough, many under-
ground pool sessions go down with a lack
of padding up Partly due to the fact that
most of the time it's just you and your board
when the opportunity presents itself. A
seasoned pool vet will drop in using only
an aggro approach as a beefing shield.
Any way you slice it though, pool skating
can get the better of you.
3. Keep a clean scene. As with any skate
terrain; Take only pictures, leave nothing
but wheel marks. It is debatable whether or
not you can actually hurt a pool by skating
in it. But, you can severely damage your
chances of skating one again and again if
you abuse a priviledge: Just sitting in a
bright white virgin bowl is akin to some sort
of euphoric experience. A dry pool should
be assaulted and destroyed in attitude only
with a knowledge and ability to tear all
quarters, knowing that you've pushed it as
far as the terrain would allow.
Graffiti has adomed, and many times
enhanced, the walls of more than a few
long abandoned and trashed swimmin
holes The seamless, plastered surface of
a pool can, and has provided the perfect
canvas for a number of imperial aeresol
kids, but, a perfect sky blue kidney should
be pairited with wheels only.
