ALL AROUND THE WORLD
Skaters abroad during the Summer
months have been filing in reports of their
travels. Keith Stephenson has been on
the European circuit pursuing a high
fashion modeling career ("and doing very
well, thank you") for about eight months
now. His travels have taken him from
Turkey ("no skate action there, to be sure")
to Portugal/Spain ("small half-pipe in
Lisbon), Paris ("French International
Championships) and on to London ("skate
scene is happening"). After touching down
in the states at his Palmdale home Keith
caught air again, this time to Japan where
he reports: "lots of street skate potential,
park about an hour away, and missed
Caballero by one day." More from Keith
and his traveling partner Billy Runaway
when we can catch up to them.
Meanwhile Cab is hard at work on his
and Rodney Mullen's Japan skate tour.
Stevallero will also join our staff in bringing
you a skate 'zine update on a monthly
basis so keep 'em comin'. (Yes, we will try
to print addresses this time).
Mike McGill will be reporting from
France where he jetted to sample the wine,

Keith Stephenson manages some air time at Famborough, England
women and oh, skating at the French
Championships. Mike left just as team-
mate Lance Mountain returned from a
stint at the Swedish Summer Camp with
Rodney. Also tearing up summer camp this
year were Rick "Spidey" Demontrand,
"Big" Steve Keenan and John Lucero.
John reports great skating during stopov-
ers in England at South Banks, Crystal
Palace and Farnborough; great skaters,
Danny Webster, lan Cocking, Sean Goff,
Mark and Barry Abrock, Gary Lee, Sue
Hazel and Lucien Hendricks, and great
English food...beans on toast? "You get
used to it."
THRASH MORE AT TRASHMORE
That's the slogan and sticker that has
been circulating around that hot East
Coast skatetown of Virginia Beach, Va.
The bio Mount Trashmore ramp (named
for its location atop of a huge mountain
of... TRASH!) has been the focal point of
most of the skate action there ever since
the city built it in response to a growing
demand. It seems the city had to create the
monster skate structure (32' wide, 20' flat,
full roll-out decking and stairs) after their
efforts in halting the spread of ramps being
built in backyards and open lots was so
successful., Horror stories of police planes
flying overhead, searching out the "illegal"
structures were apparently true. Ramp
supervisor and fellow skater, Chris Fallon
drops an invitation to all skaters to "come
and ride it anytime." Ride on Va. Beach, the
next step in the master plan is a full blown
Pro/Am contest. We're working on it.
MEDIA SKATE WASH
A lot of action in non-skate related print
and video media these days. In L.A. it
started with a blitz of coverage in the L.A.
Weekly (June 22, penned by the
Screamin' Siren herself Pleasant, in her
own "trashy" column, Getting There).
Veteran skate sages Tony Alva and our
own Ed., KT were featured. L.A. Times
Staff writer Ann Japenga furthered some
myths with a great piece of reporting on the
skate-lifestyle of those fun loving HAGS
"all girl skateboard club." April Hoffman
was also highlighted, in contrast. Other
LA. features have included: a Flipside
(issue #42) cover with Mike of Agent
Orange (bailing?) at Sadlands.
HAGS counterparts in our own
skatepark of a city, San Francisco, the
Y.A.A. Girtz and Deadly Sparks, have
been garnering a lot of attention. It all
started with a cover story in the Sunday
Examiner (Sept. 2 California Living)
featuring a great red-strobed color shot of
Joe Lopes upside down on his ramp.
Inside, Exam reporter Beth Hughes goes
on a beach run with the girlz and interviews
a wide range of various skater types. KT
and our S.F. mascot, Street Scott, earned
skate shots in that one. As usual, the Jak's
team boyz kept a low profile but despite
these efforts be on the lookout for coverage
in People magazine and on national T.V.
for them as a result of some harsh urban
sessioning at the "Boomerang" banks and
our very own S.F. skatepark, "The Dish."
During a shoot for a local show called
T.G.I.4., video cameras were treated to a
session of 30-40 skaters at the Dish, all
skating and slamming and flying about.

THAT MATTER
Eddie Realagul
Alva Skates
Tommy Guerrero showed up for some 4
"air walks over the meager mogul and
then it was down to Sammy's ramp for
some vertical realities with the C.B.S. (City
Boys Shred) crew, Tommy, Fish,B.K., Ken
Tekada, Spock, Dave Volz, Tom Shea
and a guest appearance by Steve Cabal-
lero. Elsewhere: Who was it that sent the
clipping from the Florida Flambeau, serv-
ing Tallahassee, that told of Gordon
Kilgore's battle with his neighbors and
Tallahassee officials over the junk strewn
condition of his yard in comparison with the
rest of the neighborhood? Anyway, the
article mentioned that among his suppor-
ters are "...the neighborhood kids who
frequent the gigantic skateboard ramp
that Kilgore's son built in the backyard."
Skate in there Gordy, baby.
SKATE-T.V.
Those who have been monitoring MTV
lately might have been surprised and
stoked to see Nadis Kaupas doing some
streetstyling in a Bobby & The Midnights
video that's getting some light rotation. The
Suicidal Tendencies video of Institution-
alized should be in the can any day
now, featuring some moves by Eddie
Reategul Gator, Hosol and others.

Hey kiddies out there keep an eye out for
any skate related toys you may come
across. You know, stuff like this wind up
likeness of a little fat kid on a board from
KT's collection. This one even stops and does
360's. Oh yeah, the plastic skateboards
that we're seeing a lot more of these days
on variety and dept. store shelves don't
count, they're junk.
