COLORADO TRANSITIONS
I'm a 14 year old skater from Den-
ver, CO. I have been skating for a
while and the scene here is getting
better. Last winter our local skate
shop turned into a plant shop and is
now a vacuum cleaner repair shop,
but we still have Sports Interna-
tional. I've seen a lot of skaters
lately, but also a lot of preps with
boards just because it's "in" to skate
but they'll be gone after the winter
no skate syndrome. My friend Matt
Lindstrom and I are going to build an
indoor quarter pipe hopefully before
the snow hits, and we're also going
to get snowboards. Thanx for your
mag, it keeps us in touch.

P.S. Is it illegal to skate in the streets
everywhere or is it just here. We al-
ways get pulled over but we still
skate.
DEAD 'TIL YER HEAD
I don't give a shit what music
people listen to, I have friends that
listen to Iron Maiden (they suck) and
I have buddies that listen to
hardcore. Who gives a shit. Well
that's enough of the music crap but,
there is one band that stands alone,
The Grateful Dead!
We just built a halfpipe this sum-
mer and have been shredding every
day after school. There were a lot of
people coming over but then when
they found out they couldn't hang a
back or frontside they got mad and
left and have never come back, who
cares. This is Salt Lake City and it is
The place to skate," as Brigham
Young said. Most of my friends are
hardcores and they play in a band
called The Stench, that will be radi-
cal. Well I better go, my mom is cal-
ling me to go to church. And yes we
do party in S.L.C. The winter skating

is incredible!
P.S. I bet you've never had a letter
from an SLC. "dead" skater.
PUNK VS. HEAVY METAL
I'm writing this letter to tell you that
I'm sick of reading about hardcore
vs. metal. I say who cares what a
person thinks is good or not, don't
judge a person by what they listen
to. My theory is if you skate and you
are not a poser, you're cool.
But personally I'm for hardcore.
I'm 11 years old and have been skat-
ing about two years, and I love it.

ALL THAT MATTERS
There's this kid who has a
skateboard. He rides it. There's girls
and drugs too, but they don't matter
all that much. Skating is his high and
his orgasm. Nothing else is very im-
portant. Who is this?

WHAT KIND OF KID
READS THRASHER
I'm locked up in an institution
known as the Sacramento County
Boys Ranch and I just want to say
your magazine really helps time go
by faster. I wish I could be home right
now riding my skateboard but I mes-
sed up and I have to pay the price.
So I just wanted all your readers to
remember to think twice before you
might be stuck in here with me.

SKATE TOOLED IN DALLAS
Less than two hours ago some
tool ripped off my skate! I am pissed
but rather than bitch I want to say
something to all the skaters that are
thrashing on hot boards, if you don't
have a board that's your tough shit,
why don't you save every cent for
two months like I did, there is no
reason to steal a skate, it is against
the law! When I was saving for a
skate I could have snaked one but I
didn't because I have a code of
honor and I live up to this code. It is
people like you (you know who you
are) who are fucking up this world.
Gotta go work (saving for a new
skate). Thanks,

Your mag is the greatest. It keeps
me so stoked and confident
whenever I read it and look at the
awesome photos. I live in Memphis,
TN and the skate scene is pretty
lame. It has slowly progressed since
this time last year from about 10
skaters to about 30 or 35 now. We
have 1 halfpipe and 2 quarter pipes.
We are now in the process of build-
ing a rad halfpipe. 24 feet wide, 10
feet tall. There are 3 or 4 really good
skaters here (Mark McDaniel, Matt
Campora and Tim Loving). The
hardcore scene here is pretty good.
The only good group I have seen is
JFA; the Necroes, the Vandals and
Negative Approach, they skated our
halfpipe when they were here, and
the bass player looked pretty good. I
read a letter in your mag that Brian of
JFA wrote saying how he wanted to
session with all the hardcore skate
bands. From the photos I have seen
of Don and Brian skating I don't think
the Necroes or any other so called
skate band have a chance. Good
luck JFA if the session ever hap
pens. Thrasher, thanks for all the
great photos. Keep up the good

CLOTHES MINDED
There's something I've had on my
mind for a while and it's about time!
tell someone about it. It's a new thing
called "Hardcore Image." It's going
to a show and worrying about what
you're wearing. People are worrying
if their clothes look too new com-
pared to all the other hardcores
Punk used to mean individuality, but
now individuality only means ripped
and faded jeans with a shirt you
bought at the salvation army for 60
cents. It used to mean wearing what
you want, so if I go to the store and
see something that I think is cool but
costs thirty bucks, and I happen to
have thirty bucks or mom offers to
buy it for me, I'm gonna buy it and
fuck what anyone else says. So from
now on I'm not gonna worry if some-
one calls me a trendy or a poseur
because I'm wearing something I
think I look cool in. If anyone wants
to write me and tell me what a dick I
am, please do so I can write back
and tell you what a close-minded
idiot you are.
ZINE OMISSION
Bob Hammons
Canton, MI
Boy your 'zine is hot, really hot,
but, alas, something in your July
issue really made me unhappy. I'm
referring to your section on the skate
mags. Not all of us live in California,
so an address would be nice to
have, 'cos ya can't get any zines up
here hardly, except for the local
ones. You told the prices, sizes and
contents, which is all pretty useless
if ya can't get hold of it. Please in-
clude addresses in further updates.
Okay?

NEVER LEAVE YOUR SKATE
AT HOME
Just dropping a letter to let you
know how the skate scene in Va
Beach is. It's not that bad since half
the population here skates. We had
some of the hottest ramps around,
but the city came with axes and
chain saws to take them down. So
they built a ramp at Mt. Trashmore.
Dimensions came from John
Fidula's ramp, one of the hottest
ramps ever.
By the way me and two friends
took little vacation 2 weeks ago to
Jacksonville Beach, FL. We decided
to bring our skates which turned out
to be the best thing, because we dis-
covered "Kona Skatepark.' It has to
be the jammest park ever. The loc-
als there treat you like family and
there's no hassles. Two locals I met
and took hot pictures of turned out to
be killer friends, their names are
Kevin and Ricky. Both skaters are
hot ratz and only 12 years old. Also
met a dude named Buck Smith, a
local pro, who too is a hot rat
Well I'll sign off by saying hey to
Jon and Tom back at the beach from
beaver.
Later and Thanks
