PUSZONE
A positive impulse of noise filters
amongst the walls, as a quivering
sound ricochets in uneven patterns,
slowing, forming a trap to captivate
the human being in exhilarating
awe, surrounded by invisible waves,
cross the threshold of sonication
and step in the Puszone, where lead
explodes upon pressed fiber for ex-
peditious results. Send some
stamps, get Puszone stickers and
more. Send Vinyl/tapes, address to
Pushead, 2713 Kerr, Boise, Idaho,

The needle sets down onto a
scorching zoomfest of rambunctious
ripping vinyl, delivering the shelling
bonanza of Target of Demand. Haul-
ing spasms of crying speed rush an
ultra sonic overdose in the vein of
D.R.I. and Void, which catapults rec-
ognizable bulletins of mass thrash
appeal. Man's Ruin features ten
lightning zippers of exhilirating in-
tensity, thrusted fast and furious, un-
compromising twists of ambushing
aggression. Twin guitar action, fren-
zied in escalating seizures, spice up
Target of Demand's exhibit of
chaos. Dueling frantically, one
whines, while the other over loads in
mayhemic abuse. Pack that to-
gether with a wild bucking vocalist
and this maniac barrage swirls in
pure one hundred percent attentive
pleasure. More music to set the
pace... Target of Demand. Availa-
ble for $4.50 from Spitwinkle, P.O.
Box 3554, Bellflower, CA 90706.
Time for another powerful Dis-
chord release. Hitting hard with a
strong dynamic approach is Margi-
nal Man, whose debut LP summons
up a brisk, rocky sound that carries
forth bouncing energy but nowhere
near thrash. Tight production back
ed by exceptional performances
bring out triumphantly solid numbers
laced with invigorating lyrical asser-
tions by vocalist Steve Polcari,
whose brawing voice delivers a
positive dominance of dispatched
manifestations. Firing guitar besets
spew out creative floods of vibrant
string plucking backed with thump-
ing nerves of bass fingering, deliver
ing a vivacious hard metal rock
melody. Harmonies flurry close to
the maturity of the Damned or
Lords of the New Church, not what
is expected from Washington D.C.
but a great stamina exists in Margi-
nal Man. Dischord, 3819 Beecher
N.W., Wash. D.C. 20007.
More foreign madness continues
as the venture takes us down under
to Australia where the excitement is
vitally growing. Radical surges of wr-
inging convulsions, that savagely
chafe raw, unrelenting outbreaks of
rapid thrash momentum, brings us
Civil Dissident. A uniquely tight
split second exertion, of screaming
fire power, explodes in a clamorous
uproar, sounding red alert as this
dragonnade torpedoes the aggres
sive power. Storming tunes, The
Buck Stops Here, Tell Me The Solu-
tion and Civil Disobedience, thrust
forth an insistent band attack of de-
vouring mayhem, inspired by the
current world crop of sheer speed
havoc that is rapidly rising. Blister-
ing, $5.00 from Tracey, P.O. Box 3,
Mt. Evelyn, Victoria 3796, Australia.
Metal grinding guitar directs your
attention to the debut release of De-
pression, who churn the hardcore
with a gladiator punch of whining
licks. Echoing in brute strength, this
exigent outfit pour out urgent doses
of firing reality, hitting an extreme
radical edge of spewed out iron.
Powerful lyrics storm exultant as the
music is where hardcore meets
metal and terrorizes in electric fury.

from the clutches of the looney bin,
freed himself from the chinese finger

vinyl "Dutch Hercules" pukes out the
joking berserkness. A laugh riot from
start to finish. Gala T.V. just creates
his own drowling rasp that he so
quietly steals from the kitchen blen-
der and delivers to your eardrums.
Crapper's Delight, God's Bullies and
a wildcat warrior parody of Heavy

Wenches and Wheels". Obnoxious,
ridiculous and a barrel of laughs,
Tesco brings down the house in the
funniest tradition since the whoopie

Strong political statements surge
outward as squeezing punches of
commanding, strenuous aggression
brutally swirl a raw charisma of non-
hesitant assaults. The Dicks con-
tinue to provide a dynamic upheaval
in the hard first vinyl outting, Peace,
featuring this high energetic ensem-
ble. Tight, flavorable melodies run
rampant thru your brain, volleying off
lethal onslaughts of cramming
twists. Gary's vocal hollering, spits
through a drastic rage hitting a
strong turbulence continually pop-
ped by the vigorous bombardment
of total combined band effort. Hot
live as on record. R. Radical Re-

RECORD COLLECTION
or pop, or soul...I don't know. The
Style Council covers so many styles
on one record that it almost sounds
like a demo tape by a band trying to
please everyone at one time.
The question is, why are these
two young musicians with a back-
ground of aggressive music playing
tame adult music? Because just
doing it is radical? To sell more re-
cords? Because they're bored? I
don't know the answer, but when
Sonny Rollins puts out a new record
these days, nobody calls it radical.
But I don't think I'd call it unlisten-
able.
SHADOW MINSTRELS
"Great Expectations"
Pterodactyl Records
Remember that old classic work
by Charlie Dickens called Great
Expectations? Now it's also the title
of an impressive album by Shadow
Minstrels.
The Minstrels emphasis is on
clever lyric construction, but they
avoid being flamboyant. Their works
reflect just the right mixture to taunt
your intellect while remaining un-
complex for easy digestion.
The songs of Shadow Minstrels,
in addition to being skilfully written. Blue Note 1558 Vol. 25
are enhanced by a specialization;
each song features a distinct instru-
ment to achieve a sound comple-
menting their verbal expertise. Ilus-
trating this is the track "Alicia." It's
about a guy's futile attempts to get
things back together with his girl. As
he repeats her name at various
points in the song, his voice un-
leashes his desperation; the accom-
panying violin reflects his intensity.
The song builds up an incredible st-
raining feeling, which is alleviated by
a sharp climax. Pretty powerful stuff.
Another track, "Popular Song of
the Hour, tells exactly what y'all
probably've been bitchin' about: it
expresses our discontent at the ten-
dency of DJs to play tunes over and
over and over again! It accomplishes
this with ambiguous musical refer-
ences to other popular songs. Some
of the passages seem kinda familiar,
a singing style here, some drum
beats there, etc. The sax really em
phasizes dissent with its casual
similarities as well. Kinda makes ya
go. "Yeah, right!" in support.
"Great Expectations," the title
song, denotes the effects of Mur-
phy's Law on an ordinary guy. He
thinks that he was born on the wrong
side of the bed or something:
"What I want, I can't have What I
have, I can't want Nothing I do
matches up to what I want.../Be-
tween the truth, I can't handle what I
get."
It's the weirdest blues tune I've
heard, but like Pip in Dickens' novel
and Ziggy in the strip, the dude
takes his lumps and is force-fed
them, too. Cool tune. It kinda says,
"Hey, appreciate mor

STYLE COUNCIL
"My Ever Changing Moods"
Geffen Records
There was a time (long ago) when
the record pictured above was con
sidered radical. Saxophone player
Sonny Rollins and his contem-
poraries were breaking new ground
in the jazz field. Not immediately ac-
cepted by the record buying public.
these players and their music were
seen as far out and unlistenable.
Today, of course, this sound is
music for the parents to listen to,
which brings us to two new records
on my turntable. The first one, Joe
Jackson's Body and Soul lifts its
cover design from the above-men-
tioned Sonny Rollins' album to
create an image that people will
identify the music with. Ballads, up-
beat instrumentals and Jackson's
crooning can only be called by
today's rock standards as "Adult
Contemporary"
The second record, The Style
Council's My Ever Changing
Moods puts Paul Weller (ex The
Jam) right in the heart of adult con-
temporary, or easy listening, or jazz,

HE-HO
SEPTIC DEATH
"Need So Much Attention-
Acceptance of Whom"
You've seen the gory art work on
countless flyers at countless gigs,
and on album covers all over the
place. Tortured bodies, maimed.
scarred and pained, all derived from
the mind of Brian Schroeder, better
know as Pushead.
Pus has transformed his artwork
into the form of a band, called Sep-
tic Death, and boy do they play
some of the fastest, rip-grinding, flip-
dating tunes ever to be scratched in
vinyl. The ultimate in furious brain
blenderizing, assaulting, tipsydoo-
die waves of chaotic mish-mash
pound at your eardrums. But, seri-
ously, Septic Death's purified and
modest approach arouse interest
and curiosity as to where these guys
are coming from. I like the song
called "Never Trust" the most, and
one called "Gore Story" is perfect for
describing Pus-Art: Creeping Fright-
mare, a Dripping Dream, Flesh Rot-
ting Hunger, the corpses Scream."
People should buy this record. I
hear it's cheap.
