COPING WITH COPING
Today we acquired enough coping to top
our new ramp. This brings us to the prob
lem of application. We have considered
glueing it with epoxy but are not sure that is
the best solution. Do you, with all your infi-
nite wisdom know of a way? Please school
us in the fine art of coping application.

Well, I'll tell ya. I can give you three
basic methods of applying coping to at
ramp. In addition, I would have to
suggest that all three methods com-
bined will give you the sturdy lip that
you desire. Here we go:
Step 1: Adhesives. Construction
grade adhesive caulking. Once you
have completed your ramp to the point
of having vertical walls flush with a suf-
ficient amount of roll-out deck, go down
to the hardware store and check out the
rack of industrial strength sealants and
adhesive caulking. Choose DAP Con-
struction 2000 Adhesive Caulking. Go
back and slap a ½-inch layer of the stuff
on the lip of your ramp and press down
your cope, flush with the vert wall.
Step 2: Bolts. If you decide to take this
extra heavy duty step you'll need some
roundhead lag bolts and a masonry drill
bit. Drill two holes in each block and
match two holes in the roll-out deck.
Once you've slapped down your adhe-
sive and matched the coping with the
corresponding holes, slip the bolts.
through and nut 'em down tight from the
underside of the ramp. This method as-
sures a good bonding action between
the coping, the glue and the ramp.
Step 3: Once you get past 1 and 2,
you're ready to skate. But first you'll
want to flush up that deck to the newly
applied coping. Do this by building up
layers of ply flush with the bocks or go
the extra step again and overlap. Take a
piece of -inch plywood and fit it on
your roll-out deck so that the sheet
overlaps your coping right up to the
point where it sweeps up before rolling
off onto the vertical wall. About 2 to 4
inches behind the lip. Secure the sheet
of ply to the deck with nails or screws
and you're ready to rip.
Any one of these methods, let alone
all combined, should solve your plight.
Just remember, no coping can last for-
ever with repeated skate abuse.

MULTIPLE QUESTIONS
I have four questions that have been
making my balls ache for sometime!
A) First off, what is your personal view on
the so-called "Skate & Destroy," "Skate &
Create, Skate or Don't" alternatives?
B) Do you think the Faction sounds like
Mud!?
C) Does Neil Blender indeed get that
good hate mail?
D) Why does THRASHER continue to pro-
mote the same skaters over and over?
A. I would have to say I tend to lean to-
ward the "Skate or Don't" train of
thought. As far as "Skate and Destroy"
or "Skate and Create" goes, why not? I
think the key word here is skate, and
that's my personal view.
B. Yes, but Mud is pretty good too.
C. Depends on what you mean by
good hate mail. Good being he doesn't
get any, or good being really rude, crude
and altogether lewd. I really don't know.
D. I think it's probably a matter of
money. Seriously, every skater that
gets a photo in the mag had to pay ten
bucks. So if you want your photo in the
mag, just send me ten bucks and I'll put
it in.
JONESING HEAVILY
Blickkist
I was placed by the courts in a group
home in Santa Cruz I had the rippin D.P
with 169's and when I was on the outs I
shredded my halfpipe every day. Then,
when I came here. MY PO gave the group
home people permission to sell my stick.
That thing was my life.
I've been talking to the agency shrink
and he's been saying that it would be good
for me to have a skate. He tried getting me
one but they refused. They don't seem to
understand how important that was for me.
So, if you have any info on where I can
get an extremely cheap or free skate
please let me know. Do you know how bad
I'm jonesing living in Santa Cruz where
everyone skates except me?
HD III
Victim of the System
Whoa, what a drag. Sounds like your
P.O. sucks. Anyway, I know how you
feel, and I know boards don't come
cheap. But the bottom line is everybody
pays one way or another. I doubt you'll
find a board for free, so start saving or
better yet get a job. Then ask around for
a used skate. Of course you could go
over to 41st Avenue and see if the gen-
erous people who distribute skates over
there will flow. Just sit on their steps
and throw pennies. Maybe they'll have
pity and give you a used street skate or
something.
SCHOOL RULES!
I see you printed my letter. Thanks! Read
it again and you'll see you left out the word
"any."
I'm writing to say I'm sorry I didn't make
my problem clear. See, I really liked your
answer "take it with ya," but, problem is
they don't allow skateboards at our school.
I figured out my own solution for this one
though.
I ride my board to school, then I sit down
near this big, bushy, tree. When nobody's
lookin', I clumb the tree, lock my board to
this thick branch, then jump down. After
school I climb the tree and get it down.
If during the day someone was to see my
board, they'd probably ignore it. If they
climbed the tree they'd find it locked up.
The only way they'd get my board down
would be to cut the branch (or cable) or if
they had some tools handy they could take
the trucks off.
In the case that someone steals my
board, all I have to do to get it back is cruise
the neighborhood on my bike (not B.M.X.)
and look for someone riding a skateboard
with trucks grinded down to nearly nothing.
Spotting someone on my board won't be
too hard 'cause someone riding a skate-
board in Oceanside (besides me) is a sight
rarely seen.
Sincerely Thrashing.

P.S. Send me some stickers and I'll prom-
ise to stop drawing moustaches on your
pictures!
I know, sometimes those typographi-
cal errors happen.
These letters and answers go through
several different hands before actually
being printed and where the blame lies I
couldn't say. By the way, you left out the
word 'The' before 'problem' in your let-
ter. Just thought I'd mention it.
Anyway, it seems you came up with a
pretty good answer yourself, that's
great. Maybe I'll flow a sticker.
