I'm really depressed over the cancellation of
the Pro contest in Nashville that ramp is prime.
This was going to be a letter about how great of
a spot for you to have a contest at, but I think
Ray and Britt are going to talk to some lawyersf
and try to get the owners of the property that the
ramp is on to change their minds. Anyway, here
are some pictures of my ramp.

High School handplant by Mike Nanderle
Thought you might like to hear about some
Great Plains skaters. The skate scene in Lincoln
is better than average. There are approx. 18 die
hard skaters many more Sunday raiders. We've
got two great ramps, which we exploit to an
extreme state.
The older 16 ft wide 10'8" high ramp just got a
new surface, very blazable. And over the winter
we built a new ramp. The new one is 8' wide
soon to be 12, it's great, it makes learning tricks
a breeze.
During the winter we cover our ramps and
skate indoors. We've got a hot garage equipped
with a large clearing machine. Every Sunday
they clear, and Sunday night we ride.
The media here sucks. They did a story on the
ramps, misquoted and told things wrong. They
wanted the untold story about the relationship
between punk and skating. They took many pics
but only printed the lies, no pics. Texas has got
the best skate scene in the midwest, don't let it
die.

I was reading a back issue a little while ago,
when I noticed that sometimes you have
snapshots of various things by readers. Well, I
was wondering if you would print this picture of
Mike Nanderlei doing a handplant at Branham
High School. Since Winchester closed everyone
is looking for alternative places to skate, like at
Branham. I liked the global skate '82 section in
November's edition. Your mag's rad-second
best only to slamming at Pioneer's basketball
games with Bob, Rick, Greg and Joe. The stage
dives are intense. Stay generic.

I am a dedicated skater and thrash the street
daily. But mostly go for vert, I can be seen at any
of the East Coast Ramps.
The goob with the Hobie sneaks, is my unc...
but he skates heavily too.

The letter is addressed to those lame skaters
who still write mindlessly about closed down
parks, br lack of vertical in their area.
You crybabies can complain all you want, but
this still won't change things. Let's face it,
skateboarding is going back where it originated
(the streets).
As a veteran skater with years of thrashing
behind me, I feel that this new era of skating
should be met with an optimistic attitude. After
all street skating is skating.
Downhill, streetstyle,
freestyle, vertical (call it what you like), it's all the
same pure thrill,
Here at Southern Illinois University in
Carbondale we are constantly searching for
new terrain to thrash. These pics were taken by
Brett Buchanan, a photo major and all around
rad skater. These photos are from a typical
skate session throughout this shreddable
campus, more and more dudes are getting into
the skate scene here, which is good because
skating is a great escape from the usual bogus
studies.
In closing I'll add that skating will take you as
far as your imagination lets it. Keep up the
gareat mag (definitely a true skater's creation).
Skate always and be proud of it!
