VIRGINIA
I am writing to you to tell you about the skate
situation in Springfield, Virginia. When I got here
there really wasn't anybody into it. Then I got my
friends into it, and it's gotten a lot better. Since
I've always been on the streets, I don't know
how to ride a ramp, but we live near the
Ananndale Ramp. Man, that thing is huge! I
found out about it from some people that wrote
to our mag. (The Fairfox Surf shop gives it out
and also sponsors us on it, so working the mag
is fun.) At the ramp they held a contest in May. I
have enclosed a picture of a friend of mine who
is 10. This is the clearest shot I had, so put it to
good use! Overall I'd say skating is coming
back. The people I've met or seen skating are
not the skatepark types who are doing it
because it's "In-we are the hardcore skaters!
I've been skating for five years, and I've seen my
friends who skated give it up, but I will only stop
when I get married or die or something.

WYOMING
Well here I am with snow in May! Springtime
on the prairie. I'm really writing to get in touch
with the skaters in Casper Wyoming or anyone
else within 200 miles of Cheyenne Wyoming
who skates. I would really appreciate it if you
cool guys at the mag would print this. I'm leaving
my address so anyone can get hold of me
through the operator. If it's a must you can call
collect. Thanks Lots.

P.S. Here's some pics of me taken by a friend
named Bart McClellan to print or hang on the
wall. The ramp is at my house and it's 8 feet
high, 8 feet wide and 25 feet across and
hopefully double-wide soon.
Kirk Stevens gettin' rad at Kensington Banks, London
NEW YORK, NY
I'm a street skater from New York City. I just
had to drop your rad mag a line. I have been into
boarding for eight years. I know these city
streets like the back of my hand. What I love the
most about street skating in Manhattan is
playing with traffic. My style of skating includes
360s, helicopters, ollies, soundless, wheelies,
moon walking and many different kinds of
slides. My favorite move so far is my sideways
slide which looks excellent and sounds even
better.
Right now my skating is improving by
degrees, what I really need is some exposure to
some ramps and skateparks this summer, if
there is anyone out there who can get me some
info as to where I can find any near Manhattan,
it would be greatly appreciated. My favorite
skating terrain now is Central Park. That is
where my skateboard friends and I get together
to get rad. I think that a competition would be a
good idea for this summer, but I don't know how
to organize it. I would like to get something
cooking though. If possible I would like to send
your mag an article on skating in Manhattan with
some pics of me and my friends thrashing about.
I would really like it if you wrote back to me on
the topics I brought up in this letter, if any other
skaters from other ates, countries or Manhat-
tan would like to get in touch with me, my
address is: Adam Chertoff, 185 West End Ave.,
New York, NY 10023.

HAWAII
I live on the island of Ouahu in the state of
Hawaii. Everything here is pretty cool, but no
gigs, I can understand that because of the $, but
if there are any eager bands out there with the
extra cash, your more than welcome to come
out here. Everybody here skates the local
ditches and some street skating. The cops
harass us here just like anyplace else, but we try
not to pay any attention to them. Enclosed is a
picture of me at a local ditch. Well, just wanted
to let you know the haps out here in Hawaii.
Thanks for having such a cool mag

Enclosed is the lone black and white picture I
possess. It is a shot of myself doing a rock'n'roll
slide at a cement structure which is behind a ski
lodge at Lake Eden. This bowl was made years
back for skating and although it is small, it is a lot
of fun and we plan to skate it as soon as the
snow clears. Some new halfpipes are going up
this year and a few new faces are supposed to
show-so far it looks promising.

ENGLAND / EGYPT
Since you guys printed my article on Russia in
Nov. '82 I haven't written you, so I think it's about
time I write again.
It would be great if you could print the picture
(B&W) I sent in your photograffiti section. The
rider's name is Kirk Stevens and he's from Cal.
The pic was taken on a rad day in Nov./Dec. '82
in the center of London in a place called
Kensington Banks.
As I said before, there are some pictures
coming soon with me and a few others skating
next to (on) the pyramids. I'm taking them this
summer, so you should count on some rad pics.
Soon.
The color pictures of skating were taken in
England, and the skater with the green shirt on
is Danny Webster, #1. I'm near to completion of
one of the first (if not the first) 1/2 pipe in Egypt
(Africa). All I need to do is put on the plywood.
Will send pics of people skating it soon.
Gotta quit now and you guys, Never! stop
printing the raddest mag on earth, Or Else...

TEXAS
I'm a thrashing skate punk from Plano
(Blan-o) Texas and I just got your March
issue-way rad. Scott Moser definitely knows
where it's at.
That Big Boys article was great! They were at
VFW Hall in Dallas on the 26th with Minor
Threat, The Offenders and Secret Weapon.
Everybody slammed and had a blast, that is until
the cops came and broke it up, they said it was
getting out of hand, B.S.! They were just
pissed 'cuz we were having fun doing something.
they couldn't understand!
Twoke up and there was this chick with a camere outside
my hole. Tripp
The police and other related authorities (mall
security) here are really jerks. Last week, I
walked out of the mall here in Plano, and started
skating across the parking lot, when this
security car pulled up next to me, and told me to
stay off the board in the parking lot. I told him I
was going to skate anywhere I pleased, so he
called the police, who said if I didn't stay off the
parking lot, they were gonna bust me. Yaaaaaa!
that pisses me off! Whew! I got a little carried
away. Well here are some pics of me at "The
Stepping Stone," my secret shredding spot,
print'em, burn'em, forget'em, who cares?
Keep it rad.
