KIDDERMASTER
and horizontal" tear through their dustbins
and bring you more of that wonderfully
dirty-dirt we lovingly call "TRASH."
Due to uncontrollable circumstances,
the "Mid-America Ramp Clash" had to be
cancelled. However, the THRASHER staff
immediately began the search for a new
spot, somewhere in mid-America. At press
time, the #1 spot considered is in Lincoln,
Nebraska. More facts and figures on this int
next issue. Also in next issue, full coverage
of Joe's Ramp Jam, which took place June
12, 1983. This contest was a pace setter in
many ways. From its full suburbia location
to its free form, it set precedents to be
followed.
And now, here's some TRASH that we
hope you'll really like: Spotted at Joe's
Ramp Jam (J.R.J.) was none other than
that bio filmmaker Jon Malvino, busily
cranking film for an upcoming skateboard
release. Also at J.R.J., Tracker Larry
along with nine other "Down South" types
all living happily in a Winnebago by night
and shredding the ramp by day. Not to be
out-clicked by the recent influx of skate-
board camera jockeys, Lowboy borrowed
(he claims) a 30' step ladder, hired ten art
critics from Benicia to steady him as he
clicked away from a nearby cow dung
infested field. Is odor-photography next?
Scratch and sniff next month's cover and
see. Gatorogowski got lost on his way
back down to Escondido from J.R.J. via
bus. The next time anyone saw him again
was when he popped up in Upland,
practicing for the big PRO/AM being held
there the last weekend in June.
Evidence culled from recent research
reports reveals that skaters are constantly
being cited all over and on every street in
any city that you'd care to name-so
beware, this is the time when many big
business types will try to cash in on the
energy that was created by your fun.
No less than ten secret spots (intense
new pools and ditches) were revealed to a
THRASHER staff member at the recent
Black Flag "Everything Went Black"
reunion gig at the Santa Monica Civic,
where the infamous Misfits also played.
Not only was the gig one of the most
devastating shows to date, but skatewise,
it was one of the most revealing exposés of
how powerful the skate force is becoming
once again. The question now is, will the
THRASHER staff go to these spots and
give the skaters the coverage they're
craving, or will they just go and shred some
of their own secret sessions?
Ill rumors? Black Flag breaking up?
According to one source, these rumors are
a total farce. How can anyone even believe
for a second that guys of such dedication
would throw in the towel? You must be
Pool, slalom, freestyle, high jump, speed. joking.
According to ex-TSOL drummer Todd,
that band will be reforming again with a
new singer and do all new songs in the
style of the very firs TSOL EP.
By-products from the mail department
reveal that over 30 bands will be touring
the U.S. and Canada this summer, while
school is out, bands like Minor Threat,
Suicidal Tendencies, Die Kreuzen, 7
Seconds, Black Flag, S.S. Decontrol,
Agression and Youth Brigade, to name a
few. So be on the lookout and help support
the guys who bring you the music.
Skate photog Glen E. is expanding his
horizons these days by producing Suicidal
Tendencies' new album. By the time you
read this, S.T.'s kick-ass new album will be
in the stores. Ever wonder what Dogtown
would sound like if it were put onto a record
in the form of a H.C. band? All members
hail from that legendary section of west
LA. often referred to in skatezines through
the years as Dogtown. Lead singer Mike
Muir is the younger brother of the infamous
Jim "Red Dog" Muir. The album is hot.
Also, Maximum Rock 'n' Roll, a music
fanzine, is going to do a full blown Skate-
boarding/Rock 'n' Roll exposé in a future
issue. Look for it.
STICKER IN A HIGH PLACE
Hats off this month to our sticker-in-the-
weirdest-coolest-place contest winner,
Andy Madrigan, from Springfield, Virginia.
It seems that while on a school field trip to
our nation's capital, Washington, D.C.,
Andy managed to corral U.S. Senator
(Virginia) Paul S. Trible, Jr. long enough.
to apply said stickerage while his buddy
Jeff Doyle snapped a photo. Just another
example of skaters taking an active
involvement in their community and nation,
whether it be on board or off.
SKATING ABROAD
The annual Eurocana Summer Skate-
board Camp will be held at a new site this
year and also includes a new line-up of Pro
skate/teachers. Neil Blender, Billy Ruff,
Rodney Mullen and top English freestyler
Martin Sweeney will replace Caballero and
McGill at the camp this year.
Three one-week sessions of skating and
related activities will commence in August
on 8/1, 8/8 and 8/15, respectively. For

Hosoi has developed a line of custom
designed apparel. It simply involves
transferring newly acquired clothing into
"Christian Tom." Directions are simple and
easy to follow: first shear/or tear off collar
and sleeves, then add slits up both sides
and strategically place stickers throughout
the remaining material. Sound easy? Well,
it is. Allan Losi and Bill Ruff have dubbed
the new rage "The Love Shirt."

X-COUNTRY
It's pretty hard to track down Don Taylor
these days. Don is the 29-year-old skater
from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada,
who was unofficially the first individual to
skateboard, unaided, across a major
continent (Canada). Undaunted by a lack
of outside support for his amazing journey,
Don is already on the move again. His
latest intention is to skate across the Island
of Newfoundland, and that is only in
preparation for a trek from Vancouver to
LA. and from there across America and
eventually the world. On a skateboard!
Don's efforts to bring attention to the
plight of the mentally disabled of the world
are truly remarkable in light of the fact that
he has traveled without the aid or sanction
of any established organization or club. If
you'd like to help Don continue to skate,
you may send donations of cash, equip-
ment, or even just encouragement to: Don
Taylor Jr., Postal Station "C," St. Johns,
Newfoundland, AIC 5HI, Canada. Hurry
before he skates off on another X-Country
journey.
The summer months always bring out
the best in skating and skaters and don't
be surprised if you're seeing more boar-
ders out on the streets than ever before.
This year some of the more avid freestyle
skaters have been taking their art to the
masses in the form of impromptu demos at
crowded beaches, boardwalks, and malls
all over the country. Pair of Pers, Holknekt
and Welinder, have been plying their trade
up and down the West Coast these days,
from Pier 39 in S.F. to Hermosa and
Huntington in So. Cal. Also seen styling
around the beachfronts of Ca. are Primo
Desiderio and Diane Veerman, Paul
Hoffman, Steve Rocco, Keith Butter-
field, Ray Gardea and Anthony Sedila, to
name a few. This photo of Butterfield at the
Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, Ca., pretty much
sums up the situation.

We would like to extend a Shop of
the Month compliment to John &
Pam Hagopian's Danville Sporting
Goods in Danville, CA, for their en-
thusiasm towards skateboarding and
the new generation of skaters com-
ing up in the area. John and Pam.
helped the kids get a feature story
about skating in their local paper
highlighting some of the many ramps
that are popping up in the area. If
you'd like to see your shop in the
mag, send us some info along with a
crew photo.
'BAMA REPORTS...Not only is our
cover boy this month Jay "Alabamy" from
Alabama, but a lot of other skate related
activities have been brewing out of that
southern state. Patrick Wachter relates
an incident that happened at a recent "gig."
It seems that local slalom ace Mark
Eddings caught the eye of Wall of
Voodoo drummer Joe Nanini while
applying THRASHER stickers to said
drummer's pots and pans. It probably
wouldn't have been unusual except that
WOV was in the middle of their set at the
time. Remembering the gesture after the
show, Joe invited the skater backstage for
a few social bervies and some chat. The
story doesn't end here as it seems our boy
Eddings contacted Joe in LA. during a
recent visit and hung out. Just shows to go
ya that the simple act of applying a
THRASHER sticker can lead to anything.
Other 'bama notes...local 'bama skate
bands making waves with the trendies
(pun intended) include: Suburban
Nightmare, Vicious Parody and Patrick's
own The Ditch. Our on board skate medic
and soothsayer to the masses, Dr. Rick
Blackhart, dropped the observation on us.
the other day that his extraordinary T-shirt
collection, acquired over the last 8 long
years of skate scamming, has reached the
over 500 mark. "It should be way more,"
said the illustrious skate doctor, "except I
lost a hundred or so to deterioration over
the years." Rare gems include a "Team"
Pipeline T, Ted Nugent TNT model, and a
complete first Hester Series collection.
