            Backyard Session
Anatomy of a grind... David Hackett powers a harsh frontside over abrupt coping and across the death box at Doris' pool in Huntington Beach.
THE
BACKYARD
POOL
"And, it's happening right
in your own backyard," or at
least it could be. There can't be a
better phrase to describe pool skating and
its outlaw nature. To a skateboarder, a real pool
is one that's been drained and the real pools are in the
backyards of America's suburbs and in front of seedy highway
motels. Just looking for pools in these areas is usually illegal. Asking
someone if you can skateboard in their pool can bring a variety of
responses: "Sure, that's wild!" dead silence, or both barrels of a shotgun,
are a few examples. The standard rule here is: skate first, ask questions later.
Fair warning: if you get busted, the consequences can be heavy, but if you've
never skated a backyard pool, you're missing out.
