UP ON THE FLIGHT DECK
Hey dudes your mag is really rad. This
here novel is sent from Mike, Wes, and
Mitch. We're all "prisoners" aboard the
USS Nimitz. Since all of us are thrashers at
heart we figured we'd keep skating, even
though our ship is sailing the seven seas.
So up on the flight deck we go! Ha!
The three of us have gone mad rat in
Italy, Spain, Egypt, France, and others.
People overseas really dig out when we
start doing 360's, kick flips, and double
board daffy's.
Thanks again for great pics and info. It
just goes to prove you can take a skater
away from his territory, but you can't keep
him from thrashing.
ACROSS THE POND
Getting Rad,
Mitch
USS Nimitz
Over here, by the sea, skating is alive,
with street skating and freestyle the most
popular, as there are no parks near.
However, BMX is on the increase, and
rollerskating is fairly popular, but it is dying,
as it is lame, as is BMX.
Thanks for the great mag and keep
printing and don't change it at all, except by
making it better. We have a skateboard
club in Brighton, but with no facilities.
Please print this as you don't get many
letters from England.

LAME TO BE COOL
The skatepunk scene is growing fast
here in Virginia Beach. But there also is
alot of fake trendies, mods, and people
who buy skates just to be cool.
Yeah, skatepunks rule all, but we get a
lot of harassment from teachers, parents,
grits. Even the city, (who slammed our
ramp hidden in the woods next to the tar-pit
bowl at Mt. Trashmore) fucked us over.
We also get harassment from our peers.
In my lame school you ain't shit unless
your a parted-to-the-side surfer or a G.Q.
fashion plate. Be yourself, life ain't no
goddamn popularity contest. Skate to
thrash, not to be cool.
Surfers are wimps.

STRANGE PASTIMES
I just wanted to write and tell you your
mag rules and I'm glad I subscribed. Yes,
skateboarding lives in Vermont. There's
really only four of us that are totally into it
and two guys in my school who are semi
into skateboarding, but have been skating
with us more lately since I turned them on
to THRASHER Mag. We have numerous
places to shred as well as a hot public pool
down the road from my house. The only
bone is that they fill the pool with water for
two months every summer for this strange
recreational pastime called swimming. It's
totally shreddable, however, for the other
10 months of the year. My friends have a
band called "Public Disturbance" which is
Vermont's only H.C. skateband. I sing in a
Boston based H.C. band called "PANIX-
QUAD." Boston has a happening H.C
skate scene. I make numerous trips to
Boston to skate and check out the gigs.
The F.U.'s and D.Y.'s are all cool skaters.
Let's see a story on the New England
scene. I'll send you some pictures soon so
you can get an idea of what's happening
up here. Your mag rips, keep up the great
work

I really enjoyed your skate rock article, it
was pretty good except that you forgot one
hot band, "Code of Honor," they deserve
the credit. Los Olvidados is hot too, I've
heard them before. I like SIN 34 a lot too,
but I never knew Julie skated and I've
never heard of her. I've skated for 11 years
and feel that I saw it all happen, rise and
fall. I skated for the likes of The Endless
Wave in Oxnard, High Rider skate shorts,
Sunsports, two and a half years on Sims,
Dave's Skateboard Shop. I had thought
skating died when there were no more
mags out, but I kept skating, then a friend
turned me on to your mag. I've been
reading it ever since! Thanks for the info on
Speed Rock and on skaters everywhere.
Keep up the good work!
P.S. Speed Rock is a term for Punk
Rock! I'm going to keep buying your mag.
ADVICE TAKEN
Skaters Rule!
Mark Partain
Ventura, CA
We took your advice and built a ramp. It
took awhile to get the wood but we were
desperate for a skating surface. Our ramp.
is 13 ft. wide, 8 ft. high, and 10 ft. of flat,
with a deck, rails, and a roll-in. We were
mostly street skaters but we craved vert.
The Lance Mountain interview was great
(Vol. 3, No. 1), he sounds like a guy who
really respects the sport. I skated at "Skate
City, it was the greatest. The thing I hated
was the f**kin' BMXers, they acted as if
they owned the place.
I've been skatin' since I was five, I was
born in Orange, Ca. When I moved, I met
my friend Steve, we always skate now. We
skated all through February. Some pics
are on the way. Adam Ant and Missing
Persons rule.
