SADLANDS
Thanks for the ripping article about
Turkey Shoot 11 by Steve Steadham, it
truly ripped. It's only sad that Skate City
closed. The locals rip there. I've heard the
Skate City locals have quit, I hope it's not
true. Please, if any Skate City locals aren't
quitting, please say so in Mail Drop.
Skaters don't get the credit they deserve,
all you skaters good luck and keep ripping.
Also, the Lance Mountain interview
ripped heavily. He's one hot skater.

A DEDICATED FEW
There aren't many skaters in big "B.R.,"
but those that are here are dedicated
(most anyway). We didn't know about any
other skate action in Louisiana, so we were
glad to read the letter in the November
issue. We know about two halfpipes in La.
and we have a small 4 pipe (with a drop in
ramp). Francis Lelhonome has a huge
halfpipe, no flat bottom, but 9 1/2'
transitions, a canyon roll in, and pool
coping, more than make up for that.
The best skater we know of is an old
dude named Cory that lives in New Iberia,
this dude is max crazy, he is 25 years old,
and he does 2' frontside airs, laybacks,
inverts, etc., without pads!! We're hoping to
build a halfpipe before the summer, but
some uncool circumstances are holding us
back. Me (George) and my best friend
Sloan have been riding vert consistently
for about a year and can now pull off
rock-n-rolls, inverts, airs, laybacks and
grinders. We have some street moves that
we think could match up with anybody else
such as foot plants off of 4' walls and tail
taps on almost any structure (including the
local a-holes cars).
The wimps freak when we casually
footplant off their brand new car's fender.

ON OFFENSE
I am writing to you because something in
your "SOMETHING TO OFFEND
EVERYONE" article in the December
issue offended me. You guys asked the
question, "Why does the surf media
continue to ignore skating?"
Now being both a skater and a surf fan,
I read a lot of related material, and in the
Dec./Jan. issue of BREAKOUT surf
magazine there appeared the photo
sequences I am sending you. They show
surfers doing somewhat lame aerials,
giving skaters the credit for inventing the
moves. They (surf media) aren't ignoring
us, they are just ashamed to admit that
what they started as a fun pastime for
when the waves were sad, is now twice as
rad as surfing itself. This is the real answer
to your question. Other than this minute
flaw, I think THRASHER is the most
incredible skate magazine ever, because it
skips all the bullshit and tells the skaters
what they really want to know. Keep up the
effort and prosper.

IN THE ARMY NOW
This letter is coming from someone who
knows the difference between having
freedom and fighting for freedom. I joined
the army about 2 months ago and it's pretty
lame not being able to ride whenever you
want.
It will be four weeks before I can ride my
board and I'm going nuts! I've met people
from all over the U.S. but the only
skaters/punks I've met are from So. Cal.
it
I'm not into any of the army's ideals but
was a good deal to get money for school
(college). When I'm at my permanent post
I plan to start a band and get some people
together to skate. You do have readers
that are in the military, I imagine, and I plan
to have my subscription switched to my
post. I've been showing people here the
mag (THRASHER) and they don't even
comprehend. So thanks a lot for the time
and don't join the military!
SWEDEN VS USA
Stuck in So. Carolina,
Hunter Kimball,
from Sacramento, CA
Skateboarding is still alive and well in
the town of Gothenburg, Sweden. Slides
and more are sessioned almost every day
at "Skateland" skatepark, the only
concrete park in Scandinavia. The park
consists of a pool, pipe, bowl, banks, plus
freestyle, and slalom areas.
On the photo you see my brother the
skater/bassplayer Torsken Lazoon doin' a
full tilt layback. He plays bass in a group
called GB£ Boyz. It's a group with
influences both from the Sex Pistols and
Johnny "the junkie" Thunders.
I, myself, am also an avid skater. I spent
this year in the USA as an exchange
student. I found a lot of cool skate places,
for example: in Rochester, NY, we have
three halfpipes and banks. I've also been
to Detroit, there I found two parks,
Skateboard and Endless Summer. At the
first one, I had to jump the fence but it sure
was worth the effort 'cuz the banks and
snakeruns were totally rippable. Endless
Summer was kinda wet. The pools were
full of snow and water due to the bad
weather. But I saw the shapes of the bowls
and I totally recommend the place. O.K.,
that is all for this time.
