THE BACKYARD RAMP
The wooden ramp is not new to skateboarding.
but never in the last ten years have wooden skate
structures played such an important role in,
everyday skating, as in the last year. What started
as a sheet of ply leaning against a wall and evolved
into the "half-pipe" has taken on even greater
proportions.
Backyard ramps are now two and three times as
wide as the eight foot wide "kickturn ramps" of
before. Flat bottom is considered mandatory for
optimum ramp shredability, as are roll-in channels,
roll out decking, coping and extensions.
Where space becomes a problem, some skate
carpenters have built right up against the house.
And if you're at Steve Caballeros house, you might
see the likes of Christian Hosoi stepping into a
