KENNY'S BACKYARD
My name is Kenny Nebeher and I am 13.
I am writing because I got a halfpipe in my
backyard and the other day Randy Katen
came to our halfpipe and today Duane
Peters came to it and he signed my
THRASHER magazine. We have built two
halfpipes in my backyard in three months.
I would like to know if you could send me
some stickers and send someone to take
pictures.

LITTLE KIDS SHRED TOO.
I'm an 11-year-old skater in the Midwest.
I moved to the Midwest from Santa Rosa,
California, what a bummer. But I was glad
to find people that have ramps. If anybody
has a ramp by Racine, Wisconsin, call me.

SHREDDING IN JAPAN
Sure was glad to find out your mag is still
in publication! My friend brought it back
from the states this August. PLEASE start
my subscription with the Aug. issue (as I've
got July's and it was hot). I'll be pissed if I
miss anything that's happening in the
skateworld. THANKS!!
Also, I've been living in Japan this last
year, skating vert (my passion), hills and
freestyle, and I wondered if your mag
would be interested in printing an article or
whatever, about parks and skating in
Japan. I had a nice place to skate the last
year (I just moved to Ikoma Aug. 1), and I
plan on finding some parks or something in
this area as soon as possible. I think it
would be interesting for people to read
about shredding in Japan. If you'd like me
to submit an article, please let me know.
For right now, I'm getting into some decent
hills by my house and digging it, but need
to find some vert to really get my ya ya's.
Let me know what you think.
Keep on skatin',

P.S. Your mag rips the living tar out of any
other mag in the world.
We crave coverage from Japan;
consider this an assignment. Until then
check page 25.

WE ALL SKATE
I'm one of the very few skaters in New
Orleans. There are plenty of people
wimping around on three-inch aluminum
double kick boards from Sears, but very
seldom do you see a kid thrashing on a
Santa Cruz with Indy's which is what I ride.
I play guitari a hardcore band called
the CLAP. We haven't gotten off the
ground yet, though we are trying. We all
skate and the drummer was born in
California. Some good bands here are
SHELL SHOCK, THE SLUTS, TEENAGE
WASTE, and DISAPPOINTED PARENTS.
The RED ROCKERS suck.
I also write a fanzine called CHRISTIAN
LECTURE and I interviewed Henry when
BLACK FLAG played here recently. In my
fanzine, I'm going to start printing skate
pictures but we don't have many good
ones. Probably because we have no place
to skate. No vertical, not at all. Oh well, one
shouldn't complain about his scene. Just
go out and improve it yourself. I'll try to
keep you informed on New Orleans.

P.S. Do an interview with J.F.A.!
YOUNG RECRUITS
I own a 16 foot wide halfpipe and a
couple of friends and I skate it very
frequently. The skate action in Charleston
could be better but I've heard about a lot of
young recruit skaters thrashing about.
Most people purchase boards and
equipment from the local surf shop. Brad
Constable and John Matthews are among
the locals who thrash my ramp. A new
recoat and Man of War Spar varnish really
improved the ramp. Got some pictures but
will send them in after I go into the dark
room again. Thank you for publishing a
great mag. The Bible!

FLASHBACK
Thought that I'd lay down my thoughts on
the Rusty Harris No. 4 contest as a
foreword to the THRASHER article on the
same subject. It was pretty cool to see
people like Kevin Thatcher, Morizen
Foche, Fausto (Indys Rulez!), Jeff Newton
(why didn't you compete?), Stacy Peralta
(how about a Rodney Mullen tee??), and
other fellow thrashers that showed for the
contest. Unfortunately, or is it, that the
local video media didn't (shows where they
are at, up yours). Anyway, August 27
through the 29th were the best three days
in Del Mar Skateranch's short history (to
me anyway). As a freestylist I was amazed
(although I shouldn't be) at attention the
freestyle contest got by the spectators.
Thanks to THRASHER mag for the
coverage in the September issue (how
about some photo coverage on Keith
Butterfield, uhm?).
The pool competitions didn't pale in
comparison to the freestle; in fact, it was
hot and heavy to the finish, and a surprising
finish at that. Too bad the rest of the Bones
Brigade was in Spain. I feel that all the
skaters involved, whether they won or lost,
should be proud of their efforts in the
contest (winning's not easy). I hope to see
in the near future (HINT) some kind of
pro-am or combined freestyle and pool
series, need I say more?

P.S. How about some coverage of such
bands as the English Beat and Secret
Affair, really cool tunes.
MUST HAVE BEEN ON...
This is about the pool I wrote to you
about in the April issue. In the letter I said
that the pool was flooded by BMX'ers, it
was. Me and the crew cleaned the damn
thing out, and since then we have been
