Ramp-ripping in Tahoe with the likes of
D.P., Steve Caballero, R.K., Roger
Folslam, Slambert and Tony Hospital.
The ramp, probably the most formidable to
date, sports a drop-in channel on one wall
and a twin level on the other. On special
occasions, a "Bridge of Death" is laid
across the channel for kicks. Look for more
on the "Mile-High Ramp" soon.
Wild tales from the South Bay, L.A....A
postcard from the mad freestyler from
Sverige, Per Holknekt, now living in
Hermosa Beach, reads something like this
..."At 3 o'clock the other morning my
landlord woke me up because the house
next to my bedroom window was on fire!
The fire department fought the blaze from
my room, the house totally burnt down so I
had to evacuate for a few nights...A couple
of days before that this guy calls me, "Hey!
Are you that fuggin' skater?" I go, "Sure
pal," he immediately replied "Wanna
fight?" I go "Sure pal," now afterwards, I tell
myself, never fight with 10 or more Mr.
Millers in your body. Last night me and
Paul Hoffman got back home at 3 a.m.
after playing bumper pool down at Pancho
& Wong's. Aggro Paul Lost, so he broke
the $70.00 cue in pieces. Some days
before that Hoffman had cracked his skull
open in a nude longboard surf contest. His
comment, "It felt good!"
Me and Shane Rouse are now
working hard on The International Frees-
tyle Force. Looking for sponsors for the
first issue. Well, I'll save the rest of the
Hermosa Happenings til next time."
Nobody ever said it was gonna be easy,
Per.
Craving the Silicon Valley, probably the
biggest skate hotspot around, Lance
Mountain and Steve Steadham ex-
pressed thoughts of N. Cal. relocation.
Unfortunately, their sticks got lifted while
they were taking in some of the sights of
East San Jose. It's a nice place to visit...
An influx of mail from skater/readers in
the military recently, with addresses on
battleships, cruisers and military bases
foreign and abroad. There, no doubt, are a
few of the "Brethren" caught up in the
"Mideast Mistake"! THRASHER extends
all of our best because we want to see all
of you skating forever. Come back soon,
because the skateboard scene misses
you.
Up from the Southlands of California
was Lowboy. He was seen at the Ermico
Foundry (where Independent Trucks are
made) working on his latest piece, a
12-foot-long cast aluminum bamboo stalk.
Don't ask us because we don't know
either. Speaking of Indy droogs, Fausto
and Eric have just purchased a luxury
vessel with the explicit purpose of "kicking
back and drowning worms," out on the S.F.
Bay and surrounding deltas. They're going
to dub the queen "THRASHER. A big
improvement over its current name,
"JU-BOY."
Meanwhile, down south at Tracker
headquarters, Tracker Larry has had
some intimate hassles with the local
building authorities concerning the wiring
of said headquarters. It was enough to
warrant his absence at the recent
THRASHER open house. Those lucky
ones who were up for the gala event
included Stacy Peralta, Glen E., Dr. Rick,
Duane Peters, Del 13, Fly, Kiwi & T.L.,
(the Midtown three), C. R. Stecyk and only
the coolest people in the local outlying
area. For those who shined our hospitality,
just ask Stacy what you missed, you sick
dogs.

TRICK TIP
ROLLING 50/50
By Per Welinder
1. (For regular foots) Roll backwards with
your left foot in the middle of the board and
your right foot slightly in front of the back
truck and hanging off of the right edge.
2. Press down on the edge of the board,
with your left foot, and scoop it under as the
board rolls over. Put your right foot on the
back truck. Try hard to keep the feet
together.
3-4. Start to lean backwards so the board
can reach the centerpoint on the tail.
5. When the board has reached the
centerpoint, remove, or unweight your
right foot as you throw the board over with
your left. Jump sideways in the direction in
which the board will land. Try not to force it
too much.

6. Try now to land as you are moving
backwards, in much the same position as
when you started. Now be ready for your
next move.
