FREESTYLE FAN
Recently I've been getting heavily into
freestyle, and I thought that "Drop Hop"
trick by Rodney Mullen in your last issue
(August '82) was way hot. I learned to do it
and now I'm hoping to see (in future
issues) more sequential photos like those,
of Mullen, Rocco, or other freestyle experts
doing tricks, so I can try them also. I skate
pools also, but I'm interested in seeing an
interview with a freestyle skater for once,
especially Rodney Mullen.
In conclusion, I'd just like to say that I
think your magazine rules! My favorite part
of it is Photograffiti. I think it's totally
excellent that you print letters and pics
from skaters all over the country. Well,
keep up the excellent work.

ABOUT DOWNHILL
I live in Boulder, Colorado, and just got
back from a road trip to California. Not
skated any parks in over a year because of
the f--king Xers running us down. I was
hesitant about going to any parks but I
decided to hit Del Mar Skate Ranch
anyway. Man, that place rips!
The reason I'm writing (which I don't do
often) is because a couple of us here in
Boulder have but a new way of going
downhill. With the park pretty well gone,
we have gone to the streets and the fuzz
hates it! About our downhill, if you have
ever seen one man bobsled, it's kinda like.
that. On regular boards (no long boards or
anything like that) we rip this hill in the
foothills of Boulder called NCAB-the only
problem is, it is a federal offence if you are
caught so we realy have to jam or die...We
are taking a trip next summer to Glendora
Mtn. in California, so any innfo would help!
I'll even return your postage!
Thanks,

P.S. If you're ever in Boulder, look me
up! We'll do some downhill sessions or
something.
Look for Capitola Classic coverage next
issue. T-ED
SKATE JOURNAL
Recently I took a trip down to South
Carolina to visit a skater friend of mine who
moved down there, Brad Constable. What
I tried to do was document the trip and all
its adventures with a Skate Journal. After
the trip I went over it and have found a
number of quotes/comments which I think
you and other skaters might find pretty
interesting. And here they are:
Victor Gerdes: "Any skater worth his
bearings knows how to make a bogus
coper
Brad Constable: "Your hospitality is much
thanked and the best in town...for the
price."
BC: "I'm gonna sleep good tonight. I feel
the pre-vegetation stages entering the
abscesses of my mind-I'm getting tired."
BC: "My dog plays for the Heavin' Pups,
stand-up bass. They have a new single out
called 'A Dog's Life."
VG: "Cool Shoes are just as good as Van's
in Gold Cup after hours activities, but the
judges may be biased towards the
originals.
BC: "You don't like it, you don't ride it."
BC: Wooden copers are in and don't you
forget it."
VG: "Skateboarding is now growing the
way it should be."
BC: "Life is too serious to take seriously."
VG: (whilst in a Radio Shack) "A certain
word comes to mind...SHINE."
BC: "You can't be threatened when you
have money."
DM: "If I slam, then I'll have something to
say."
Also Brad Constable wrote two
poems/songs which I feel says a lot about
what most skaters feel. Here are the two
songs:
They Stare
by B.C.
They look and stare
They're always there
We're a different breed
Our purpose to sow the seed
We do what we want
We hear the chant
Of those who don't
And make fun because we won't
They look and stare
Because we're always there...
Stop Skate Harassment
by B.C.
We just want to skate
We're not harming anyone
We're just having fun
They don't understand
Because they're just so lame
But Zak, we quit the game
Stop skate harassment
Because when the fun is outlawed
Only the outlaws will have fun
I hope you can find a place for some of
the quotes and maybe even the poems, I
know that a lot of feeling went into what
was written. In the meantime, when you're
not bustin' your ass to get the mag out,
SKATE SKATE SKATE SKATE SKATE,
and oh yeah, skate a bit.

Now this is cool! Everybody's got a story
to tell. This is a good example of a full-on
approach to radical skate journalism,
what's your story? Write in and tell us
about it?
FITS RIGHT IN
-ED
Since I first started skating back in 1976
or 75, I can't remember, I've broken my
wrist, right arm and in April of this year
while street skating on a massive hill, I
f--ked up again. I fell when I couldn't bail
and broke my left wrist again and my left
collar bone. I'm 17 now, and still skating
while a lot of my friends think skating is
immature. My dad sez he'll trash my board
if he catches me skating, but f--k him, I'll
skate till I'm too old.
The Stacy Peralta interview was the
best, my mom read it and said I fit right in
with what he said about skaters being like
another culture. Being heavily into punk
just as much as I am into skating, I've met
more skaters than ever, punk, like skating.
is truly for youth. Oh yeah, for you skaters
in S.C. or N.C., the Concrete Connection
on South Boulevard in Charlotte is still
skateable with a good mogul run, banks,
and a cool snake run, if you can find the
right line. It's located right behind T.J.
Mudds Beach Club, park in back so the
cops won't bust you.
Then there's Mike Lowery's 10 by 20, 8
ft. tall U pipe which is the best in N.C. and
in Raleigh, Errol the punk, and editor of
Southern Lifestyle punk mag, has a good
quarter pipe ramp from what I've heard.
I'd like to hear from other skaters in N.C.
or S.C. for places to skate, so here's my

SMALL TOWN HOSPITALITY
Your mag's the best, black and white
photos are way cool (who cares if they're
not color, who needs the hassle or the
probable price increase that follows
color?!). PHOTOGRAFFITI is definitely
HOT! (It's a way of satisfying ego trips by
giving 'em a chance to see themselves in a
mag but don't get me wrong, I like it.)
We don't claim to be the best or anything
of the sort, but we (the small town locals)
have fun with it! And everyone's invited.
Our ATWATER ramp is hot though, with 4'
of vert. and a canyon to go with.
Before I forget-Fresno is happening.
"Punk über alles."
