FEEDBACK ON THE TURF
I'm glad to see that the Turf Skatepark
was in your mag. I went last summer and
plan to this summer, winter, fall and
spring. It is only an hour drive from where
I live, but me trying to get my license and
my friend Jim trying to get the car is a
flasco!
Well, I used to have a halfpipe which I
sold to a little skater named Ryan, so I still
get to skate it and we're starting to put the
long awaited platform on. Ryan also
unfortunately rides BMX but some other
Xer's have a 4 pipe which they let us ride
and they now too have boards and we got
together with some spectators at a
neighboring party. But since the Xer's dog
made meat out of my hand, I haven't
ridden in a while.
There is not too many spots around
here (I've looked everywhere) to skate
and no other skaters around either. If
there are I'd like to hear from you and
have you tell me of skate territories
nearby and of course I'll shred them. I'm
listed.

THRASHER,
First, I just want to say thanx for putting
in a story about the Milwaukee Surf 'N'
Turf skate park in your May/June issue.
Jerry Steuernagel explained exactly right.
I went there last year and it was totally
hot, even though I couldn't do much
because I just started skating early last
year. The triple pool is totally shreddable,
I have seen people do handplants,
laybacks, and frontside air in it. A local
there named "OZ" can do handplants. I
just moved from Madison, Wis., four
weeks ago. Now I live in Sandy, Utah. I
have met two guys here named Ken and
Chad (who are my friends now). They
both skate. Ken is going to build a
halfpipe on the side of his house. Anyhow,
thanx again for putting an article in about
the Surf 'N' Turf park.
There is a skatepark here in Utah called
Earth Surf. It has a keyhole, two bowls, a
wooden halfpipe, freestyle area and
snake run. I'm going to skate it this Thurs.
Second, thanx for putting a story in
about Fresno, Ca., in your May issue. Too
bad the park there closed. I was going to
go to it last summer (I was visiting my
grandpa) until I found out it was closed. I
have been to the one and only skate
slope there, Bernie's. Thanx, Bernie, for
great low prices and the biggest
skateboard selection I have ever seen.
Keep up the great work, your mag is
the best. The Dead Kennedys, Black
Flag, and Circle Jerks rip.
Dear THRASHER,
Todd Thomas
Sandy, UT
I just got your May/June issue and I just
want to say thanks. First for the interview
with Stacy Peralta. I don't think anyone is
more dedicated or has done more for the
sport than he has. Second, I'd like to
thank you for the coverage you gave to
Surf 'N' Turf Skatepark. I've been there
many times and have yet to skate it, but
there are a lot of hot skaters who rip the
place every day. Unfortunately, rumor has
it they may be closing in mid-July if
business doesn't pick up. So if anybody
out there can make it to Surf 'N' Turf, get
there and help keep it open. I'll be getting
there myself, but since I moved from
Wisconsin to Illinois, it may be a little
harder, but I will get there!
Unlike some other skaters, I would like
to see color photos, but if it's going to
increase the price or make getting the
mag out more difficult, forget it.
Skate to the tunes you like, and like the
tunes you skate to!

LAND OF GIANT RAMPS
Here is an update on skating in "the
land of giant ramps." We are now in the
process of tearing down our ramp and
moving it cuz the owner of the land got on
the rag. The friggin' thing is so giant that it
is way hard to move. It's located in our
town (no more hints). Now that "the
ramp" is temporarily unrideable, we skate
everywhere. We found this ditch to skate
in by our house, plus we met some guy
GNARLY GRINDER
from a nearby town called Rosemond (we
saw him in your mag) and got together
with him to skate. He showed us where
some pipes were and we've been riding
those too. I'd send more pictures but
someone stole our camera. When we re-
build the ramp we'll send more pix (as
soon as we steal our camera back!).
We're going to add 8' more of flat bottom
for a total of 18 and 16' more of 10' high
for a total width of 44'. Meanwhile, we've
been skating the C.A.S.L. series and
staying up till 4 o'clock in the morning
surveying a spot to steal 100 sheets of
plywood from. Wish us luck! Gotta get
back to moving the ramp.

HARSH ATTITUDE
Your mag is the best by far. Your skate
photos are excellent, especially PHOTO-
GRAFFITI. I really enjoyed the "Gnarly
Street Issue," since that's all there is to do
right now. Our halfpipe is under construc-
tion and will be completed by the time you
print this (photos will follow). It will be 12"
wide with 9' transitions and a foot of vert.
All skaters in the Pacific Northwest feel
free to write for info and come skate it
with us. It's too bad people say skating is
dying because it's alive and well in the
state of Washington. Only the clone
skaters are dying out. Eliminate irrational
clones, kill them all, they were wimps to
begin with. Short live rock, punk will
survive. It's an attitude and lifestyle, not a
type of music. We will survive, the clones
won't (we'll see to that).
My address for Gnarly Punk Skaters to
write is: 9 N. Spokane St. #30, Walla
Walla, WA 99362.
Thanx, THRASHER, for being RAD.
