downhill terrain. We've been busted by
the Grunters (pigs, cops) but that doesn't
stop us.
Secondly, I'll tell you about our first
annual bowlriding contest, which I solely
organized. It was held about a month ago,
and for the first contest ever in Tasmania,
it was good. I ran it and judged it along
with a friend, who broke a couple of
bones in his foot about 10 minutes before
the contest was scheduled to start.
Paul "Avon Brooking took first prize,
which was not surprising seeing as he is
probably the best skater in Tasmania.
Second camd Jim "Cool" Aiken, and third
Jon Williamson, not that these names will
mean anything to you. A bloke by the
name of Robbie "Rupert" Boam pulled
some unreal frontside aerials, footplants
and rock-n-rolls, however could not
consolidate due to many crashes. There
was a modest crowd of 20-30 people, but
we made the contest, we had fun, we
gained a new experience. The entrants
were stoked, the winners were stoked and
I was stoked.
It's guys like us that keep skateboarding
alive. However, SKATEBOARDING IS
IMMORTAL-IT CAN'T DIE, and I speak
on behalf of all of us. I sincerely hope you
will print this letter, for the sake of
skateboarding. It would do us the world of
good, I mean we would be so stoked to
see this letter in THRASHER, which is our
bible, and I'm sure thousands of other
readers would be stoked: it's not every
day that you would get a letter from.
Australia, let alone Tasmania, which is a
little island stuck down at the bottom of
Aussie. I have enclosed a photo of Paul
Brooking, a.k.a. Avon, doing a frontside
handplant in the deep end of our pool,
about 3 hours before the competition. The
photo was taken by some dude whose
name is "Chook." Anyway, I hope, pray,
beg, plead and grovel just so that you will
print this letter and the photo.
If you do print the letter, could you
please send me (us) a copy of the
magazine you print it in, as we don't get a
regular supply of THRASHER, which is a
real bummer. Anyway, I hope to receive a
THRASHER magazine in my mailbox
soon with my letter printed in it. Put it this.
