HELLO OL' MATES
I just wanted y'all to visit Gothendburg
and to visit Sweden's best skatepark,
"Skateland." De park consists of a pool, a
bowl, banks and a heavy full-on maxipipe.
Sorry to say I ain't got no pix of it. But if
you gamble a stamp and tell me where
you're at, I will send you lots of photos.
I'm also going to visit de U.S. for a year
as an exchange student in a town called
Rochester, N. Y. state, near Lake Ontario.
If there are any skaters there who thrash
halfpipes, curbs or whatever, please write
to me and I'll contact you before or after
my arrival.

MESSAGE FOR BRUCE W.
Hey Bruce,
I heard about your troubles with those
damn BMXers in the April issue. Well
listen, what ya gotta do is to go out for
massive retaliation! Now check this out:
whenever those good for nothings show
up at one of their races, you gotta slide
some oatmeal in their helmets while
THIS GUY DOES NOT LIKE BMX
I just want to let you know that Boise,
Idaho, is a most incredible place to skate.
Although most people are into BMX
(which sucks), quite a few are still skating.
We used to have a little skateboard park
back in '78 but it was torn up. But street is
more fun, and Boise has its fair share of
radical terrain. We have a few okay empty
pools, an irrigation canal, many parking
garages, and we are in the process of
building a massive halfpipe. We also have
many hills for downhill.
I think you people have a totally great
mag. I don't think you should change it
one goddamn bit! Especially NO BMX!!!
I hope you will print this because I want
people to know that Boise rips. I think that
anyone who skates is totally cool. All
BMXers SUCK!!! And in this world today
all skaters' motto should be "NUKE THÉ
BMXers!" I hope skating stays popular for
many years. One more thing, I think you
guys should do a page dedicated to
forming local groups. Also, if you guys
want a story and some pix on Boise
skating, let me know. Led Zeppelin, Town
& Country S.D., Santa Cruz, Independent,
Variflex, Vans, The Doors, Black Flag.
Rector, yes, THRASHER mag, and The
Who all rule! Well until next time...

WHO SAYS?
Do you have THRASHER shirts in
yellow, if not then just send me another
red one. Your magazine really rips. A lot
of people in my neighborhood are starting
to skate again. We have a halfpipe in my
backyard, and we go to Whittier skatepark
every weekend, it's a hot park. Who says
skateboarding went out, it's alive and well
in my neighborhood. We all live to
THRASH.
they're not looking. Next you can do some THRASHTOONS
wild & wooly tail-taps on their scrap heap
bikes... Well, just do something, filling up
a bowl is an unforgivable sin. Hang in
there, and keep skating till you or the
world comes to an end!

TASMANIAN SKATE DOGS
Dear THRASHER,
My name is Paul Christian, a.k.a. Fod,
and I live in Hobart, Tasmania, which is
the smallest state in Australia. I am writing
for two reasons; to fill you in on what the
skateboarding scene is like and to tell you
about the contest I organized about a
month ago. I'll talk about the scene "Down
Under first.
I read a letter in your December '81
issue by Fritz Coy who generally said that
you can be a half-hearted skater and go
home if you've got nowhere to skate or
you can go out and rip shit out of all the
streets, banks, parking lots, roads, hills,
ditches, malls, buildings and pools. There
are about 10 really hardcore skaters here
in Hobart, and we rip shit out of concrete.
We find, test and shred all types of terrain
that I have just mentioned, and apart from
all of those we have a public skatepark
and a friend has got a small but intense
halfpipe. The skatepark is small, poorly
made and old-fashioned, but we still rip it
like we were at the Oasis or something of
a much higher standard than what we've
got. Some guys down here are really hot
and we're into tricks like switchfront
aerials, footplant tailslides, frontside
handplants, 2 foot high frontside airs,
rock-n-roll boardsliders, extended
handplants, bionic layback boardsliders,
extended 50-50 grinders, grab grinders
and many more old and new tricks. Not
bad considering we've only had a bowl to
ride for a year. Before that we used to
shred a bank which was about 6 feet high
and 20 feet long, and this bank started
skating for vertical, mind you, riding our
12-foot bowl and riding a 6-foot bank has
a lot of differences. We often go for hectic
street skate sessions, and every now and
then we get our downhill boards and
luges and go for a downhill session at a
place called Grasstree Hill, which is 4

BANDING TOGETHER
This is Capt. Skateboard talking again. I
found out about a month and a half ago
that Cherry Hill closed and I was pissed.
The dwids of the nerd world are finally
unifying and making the skatepark extinct.
We skaters then must unify to protect our
interests and ideas. All you skaters out
there who are interested call me at 947-
8335, or come into Manhattan, go to
Central Park Goodskates (geekskates)
and I'll be waiting. We must band together
before we become an endangered
species. I'm changing my name to Capt.
RADICAL.
P.S. Please let me know when the next.
A.S.P.O. contest it.
