OADTRIPS ARE THE BEST PART OF SKATEBOARDING.
Ever since I got my first skateboard at the age of 12, I have
used it as a vehicle to explore and learn. At first it took me to
neighborhoods that I had never heard of to skate new spots that
I found out about through the grapevine. Soon I was hitching rides to
skate a ramp in another state or at a local contest. I would always come
back to high school and the kids would be talking about parties and
movies that I could not relate to-I had been sleeping next to a back-
yard ramp 100 miles away. As I have grown older skating has taken me
all over the world, not for some sponsor or contest but for myself. My
friends and I have worked and saved and scraped by to go skating.
That's what it's all about.
Our latest roadtrip was to Quito, Ecuador to ride an old 70s-era
skatepark with snakeruns and a fullpipe that empties into a bowl. The
only info we had about the spot was from a photo of Hewitt doing a
