A 'Billy Stricken
I was floating on a drift log
Saw you butchering a fat hog
You threw the innards in the water
I knew you were the judge's daughter
When you chopped into the backbone
I forgot about my way home
You went and bit into a kidney
You have the grace that moves me
When I saw you I felt gut shot
Heart bleeding like a stuck pig

Skateboarders: Revenge believed to be motive

The arrest of two men who allegedly beat up a
monitor at Santa Barbara's new beachfront skate
park should serve as a clear message, police say,
that Skater's Point rules should be taken seriously.
Joshua Collins, 24, of Morro Bay, and Vassar
Triplett, 23, of San Luis Obispo, were taken into
custody late Monday on suspicion of committing
felony battery with serious bodily injury.
The men are being held in Santa Barbara County
Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail each.
The attack has been strongly criticized by park
officials and skaters alike.
Brenden Shaughnessy, 19, a city Parks and
Recreation Department employee, was simply
doing his job as park monitor Sept. 22 when he
called police after Collins refused to put on the
required helmet and knee and elbow pads to enter
the park
Collins was transported to the Figueroa Street
station where he was then cited for refusing to
adhere to the rules and released.
"He then called Triplett from his cell phone to
pick him up," said Santa Barbara Police Lt. Nick
Katzenstein. "Both returned to the waterfront area
and contemplated what had happened."
The suspects reportedly told detectives that the "
more they thought about the situation, the more
they laid blame on the monitor, Katzenstein said.
"That's when they formulated the idea to go
assault him to teach him a lesson about calling the
police," he said. "However, I think the real lesson
here is going to be learned when these two young
men stand before a judge."
Joshua Collins, left, and Vassar
Triplett are being held in County Jail
in lieu of $20,000 bail each.
