I was reading Mail Drop and some-
one mentioned MTV and ESPN mak-
ing skateboarding the "in sport." Well,
I'm glad skateboarding is getting the
recognition it deserves. It's not all
about being some trendy fad.
Skateboarding is a fine talent and in my
opinion it's harder than throwing a
football or baseball or basketball, and
look at the recognition those guys get. I
would love to turn on the TV every
Sunday and watch skateboard-
ing all day and then Monday
night skateboarding, but you
got kooks bashing it 'cause it's
getting promoted. And if it
gets promoted you get more
skateboarding parks and
more places to skateboard
and people lightening up on
us riding in illegal places
'cause it's finally getting recog-
nized as the fine talent that it is. Let's
see Michael Jordan b/s hardflip a
handrail. People get this idea that it's
selling out; it's not selling out 'cause the
true rippers will do it no matter where
it goes. When I was 17 or 18 I got ama-
teur sponsored at one action sports
show in Long Beach and though I'm
not sponsored anymore, I still skate-
board and will 'til I'm 60.

ROCK STAR
About 65 million years ago, an aster-
oid hit the earth on the Mexican
Yucatan peninsula killing all the
dinosaurs. During the year 1930, the
stock market crashed. This lasted 'till
1939 and was named the Great
Depression. During this time the prices
of stocks fell 40 percent. 9,000 banks
went out of business and 9,000,000
savings accounts were wiped out.
86,000 businesses failed and wages
were decreased by an average of 60%.
The unemployment rate went from
nine percent all the way to 25 percent,
which left about 15,000,000 people.
jobless. On August 6, 1945, the
atomic bomb was dropped on
Hiroshima with casualties
reaching nearly 130,000. 90
percent of the city was lev-
eled. In the year 1948, a
group of physicists, scien-
tists, and chemists
started the creation of
the hydrogen bomb and
later finished. Even though
it was only used in nuclear-
bomb tests, it has an explosive force
1,000 times more powerful than the
atomic bomb. Over the Northern
Hemisphere, the ozone layer has
decreased by 15-20 percent since 1980.
A 10 percent drop in stratospheric
ozone levels is likely to lead globally to
300,000 more skin cancer cases, 14,000
more malignant melanomas and 1.6.
million more cataracts each year, plus a
general decrease in human immunity
systems. Then, in the '60s, a couple of
kids got bored and decided to stick
their sisters' rollerskates on a piece of
wood and ride it around. Now, during
the present, what do you think people
are most worried about? A nuclear war,
which could end the human race? Or a
10 percent drop in the stratospheric
