ANDREW REYNOLDS
W
HAT WAS THE FIRST THRASHER
you ever saw?
Maybe one with a Pushead cover. I don't
know if it was a skate trick or a just a face,
but it had a Pushead cover. I borrowed it-I
didn't even skate, but I borrowed it from my
neighbor because I wanted to draw it. I was
a freak for drawing; I'd look at that and then
draw it. But then I looked at the pictures and
it was on after that.
You've been skating a long time, right?
Yeah, about 12 years. Since like '88. I was
doing bonelesses and skating jump ramps for
years, and then I saw the first people come up
with street stuff and I picked it up after that.
It wasn't like today, where the kids jump on a
handrail their third day on a board.
What was your first photo in Thrasher?
It was a backside 180° over a grass gap. I'm
not sure who shot it, but I think it was this guy
named Bryce. Ocean and I were skating
around Carlsbad, and there was this little gap
that they were going to give me $15 to back-
side 180°. So I just went and did it.
What has changed since you were Skater Of
The Year?
Nothing at all, really.
What about your shoe and company and
all that?
Oh, things like that? Yeah. All kinds of good
things. Getting into bigger and better things.
Baker Boards is coming out, and we've got the
sickest team-all the homies, Greco. And the
Reynolds 2 shoe is coming out.
Are you going to be a businessman now?
Somewhat. I'm turning into a little bit of a
dark man, but not really. I'm mostly going to
skate and let other people handle all the
business things.
Are you going to have meetings with Per
and stuff?
Oh, of course.
Is J. still involved?
J? Of course. You know Suge Knight of
Deathrow Records? J. is like the Suge Knight
of Baker Boards, except he's not in prison. Not
yet. Everybody watch out for J.
Do you have Knox Godoy on the Billy
Waldman program?
Knox asked me, "Who is Billy Waldman?" I
just said, "Oh, he was just some kid." He had
"I WANT TO HAVE A SPECIAL
SOMEONE IN EVERY STATE⁹⁹
