HEN WERE YOUR SALAD DAYS?
It seems like they just keep coming,
but I would probably choose Bones Brigade
tours of yore (1987-1989). Everything was so
new and exciting back then, and we were expe-
riencing a lot for being so young.
What's a basic vert trick you can't do?
Backside tailslides. I can do them, but
mine suck.
What's the wackiest product or organization
you've been asked to endorse?
I was recently approached about doing sig-
nature pasta shapes (macaroni, I assume). I
declined before even asking what specific
shapes they had in mind. And some network
wanted me to host a kids' soccer series.
Who's your favorite skater who doesn't
skate anymore?
Christian Hosoi. He would be killing it right
now if he had stayed on point.
Is Thrasher's attitude of Skate and Destroy
still important?
It is in the context of destroying limits,
boundaries, and racial barriers. But not if it's
just about breaking shit.
Do you fear for vert's future? Do you think
there will be a gap after this generation of
vert pros steps down?
Not really. I'm 32; most of the vert
dogs are in their early to mid 20s, so
they still have a lot of potential to learn
new stuff. There is also a small crop of
new vert skaters coming in, like Shaun
White, who have the ability to keep it
alive. It will never be the most popular
form of skating though.
When did you first realize you were famous?
When I saw a Dennis the Menace comic and
Dennis had my graphics on his skateboard.
What trick brings you the most enjoyment?
540's I like to try out every variation.
Describe your dream session-with who
and where.
The Chin ramp with bigger trannies and
wider, with Cab, Lance, Holmes, Bucky, Bob,
Andy, Colin, Danny, Riley, and El Gato. My
dad would be spectating.
Which up-and-coming street skaters do you
like to watch?
Rodrigo TX, Ryan Sheckler, Ryan Johnson,
Kyle Berard, and Tosh Townend.
