HEADS CHAD KNIGHT
F
IRST OFF, I WANT TO APOLO-
GIZE for insinuating in past arti-
cles that you in any way have a
weight problem. The truth is,
you're perfectly physically fit, correct?
I would like to think so.
What kind of fitness routine do you employ?
Let's see, I skate every day. I carry around a 20-
pound baby for a good part of the day. And that's
pretty much all.
Do you get a special feeling knowing that your
baby and Dave Coyne, the Dinobaby, will get to
grow up together?
Dave can be a great influence; I'm just con-
cerned that one day he might have a baby of his
own. That's a big concern of mine.
Yeah. It would be hard for a baby to be the
TAKES IT PERSONAL
Yeah. He's huge. He definitely big for his age.
What kind of things do babies like to do with
their free time?
They like to eat-they're really into that. They
like to sleep sometimes. Right now he's watching
Sesame Street and he's yelling at the TV.
That's good. It's good for a baby to figure out
what kind of television he likes to watch.
Well, you know. It's stimulating for him.
Next thing you know he'll be surfing that Web.
Hey, he ain't going to be no veg.
Which was more of a shock, finding out you
were going to be a father, or finding out Pigpen
had just barfed in the back of your new car?
No, it wasn't Pigpen. It was one of Randy
Colvin's friends, some idiot guy.
Sum up the Aftermath Tour experience in a
to keep thinking of things to do. That's why I've
been trying to travel and skate new stuff, because
in San Diego there's pretty much nothing.
What's the video accomplishment you're most
proud of thus far?
I'd have to say the switch backside flip down
Sports Arena.
What was that in?
Seven Steps to Heaven, which was a Maple video
that I'm sure everybody out there has seen.
When did that come out?
About four years ago.
Do you get mad when your teammates quit?
Yeah. It's really frustrating. It seems to
keep happening.
Do you take it personal?
Yeah. Of course I do. I understand people have

daddy of a baby.
Especially since it's a possibility nowadays.
Oh yeah. Dave's a man now.
Dave has officially become a man.
But he's only 23.
He paralyzed a woman.
Have you given any thought to having Dave act
as a babysitter?
My main concern, again, is that he might lose
the baby.
If you were to have any member of the Osiris
team act as a babysitter, who would it be? Kasper?
Definitely not Kasper.
T-Bone?
T-Bone might scare him too much. I don't think
I could trust anyone on the team with my baby.
What about Kanten?
Kanten! Perfect! He'd be the perfect babysitter.
Does your baby do any tricks yet?
He learned how to sit up. He can spit up pretty
good. He learned how to stay up all night. He can
eat pretty much half his body weight.
So he's pretty healthy.
couple of words.
Well, wow.
What was the DJ to skater ratio?
Two to one.
What was the highlight?
Probably watching MP go to jail.
Who's MP?
One of Smolik's homies, freestyling on the cor-
ner in New York with a 40 and going to jail. That
was funny to watch. And then going home in
Chicago to see Colin be born.
Were you freaking out?
Yeah, because Nicole called me and told me she
was going into labor, so I had to jump on a plane.
Why do you think kids are so cuckoo for Osiris?
Kids really like Osiris, I've realized. I guess it's
that people on the team actually skate and the ads
are more skateboard-oriented than a lot of oth-
ers. It's more of a true skateboard company.
Has it been difficult to keep topping yourself
in videos?
Yeah. Especially with guys out there like Arto and
Rowley, basically making it impossible. It's difficult
their reasons or whatever, but it's a kick in the ass
every time it happens.
Do you ever want to get physical with them?
No, I don't want to take it to that level.
Oh good. What skaters are you a fan of?
I really like watching Kirchart, Rowley, Chris
Dobstaff, and Pazelt, when he's not hurt.
Scott Pazelt? He's the working man's Ronnie
Creager, right?
Yeah, I've heard him referred to that way.
What are some great moments with Coyne?
Dave Coyne trying to go from downtown
San Diego to his house, which is 10 miles
east, and ending up on the border of Mexico,
which is 40 miles south. Or maybe Dave
Coyne trying to go from his house to Ed
Dominick's house, which is about three miles
away, and ending up on Coronado Island.
Dave Coyne on the Aftermath Tour putting
on 50 shirts and looking ridiculous.
Was it a bet?
No. He just put on 50 shirts. And a wrestling mask.
