HE FOURTH ANNUAL SCRIBBLE JAM
went down in Cincinnatti, OH, this summer
and as usual there was sick graffiti, ridiculous B-
boying, hot turntablism, and an ill MC battle.
Friday night found Minneapolis' Atmosphere
wrecking shop, but the meat of the Jam was
cooked up all day Saturday. The graf was more
regulated than in previous years, so the toy pres-
ence was kept to a minimum, and the walls were
burning by three o'clock. The B-boy battle.

Dovi
kicked off around four and crews from
Michigan to Florida proved that the Scribble is
one of the best places in the US to see B-boying
at its finest. Chicago's Junkwards retained their
title as the kings of the break after a heated war
with Milwaukee's Best. The DJ battle followed,
and DJ Precyse beat out Abilities for an unprece-
dented threepeat victory. The MCs spit lyrics off
the top of the head deep into the night, but even-
tually 1998's winner ADM shut 'em down and
reclaimed his crown. Of course the cops couldn't
help but come for the fun and they ended up get-
ting caught on video beating down a drunk in the
parking lot. The next morning people straggled
into Burnett Woods to wind down with beats
and barbeque before heading back to their
respective residences across the country.
Cincinnati isn't neccesarilly the first place you
look for hip-hop, but the Scribble Jam consis-
tently delivers, so don't sleep. --True54
