some skating questions. Who was your
favorite past pro skater? S: Guerrero, 'cause
he's from SF. Everybody in Bones Brigade. C: Cab,
'cause he still collects toys. R: Matt Hensley, Mark
Gonzales, Lance Mountain, Jason Lee. S: You're
kind of a name dropper, Ray! What was the best
skateboard you ever had? S: Vision Gator. C: A
Fred Smith, and then a Cab board. How long
have you been skating? C: Since fifth grade. S:
Since I was 7 or 8. Did you start on a plastic
board or what? S: My first board was a Gator. C:
Ah, you fucker, you started out on a pro deck. I
started on an Action Sports from Price Club. R:
Maybe a Jason Lee, the one with the chicken on
it. C: I used to get called a poser for that shit. I
used to wear Vision Street Wear in fifth grade and
everyone called me a poser, and then come
Christmas everyone had it. What's your
favorite trick, Shea? S: Are you talking about
turning a trick or what? No, street tricks. S: I like
bonelesses and shit like that. I like going really fast
'cause I can't do any tricks. C: Noseslides. Ray
Bomber, what are some of your favorite
tricks? Shirley down on 5th Street off
Mission? S: Oh, you know her too? On the sub-
ject of skating, what do you think of
Thrasher? C: I used to steal it from Safeway.
S: My auntie got me a subscription in the third
grade. It is the only skate punk mag. We aren't
trying to kiss ass or anything. What is your
favorite music, Chris B? C: The bass. Or do you
mean actual music? I like anything as long as the
bass rules. The Clash, '70s punk, and a lot of '60s
shit. Old rock 'n' roll, not too much '90s stuff. My
dad got me into James Brown when I was young.
Shea Rocker, same question? S: I like to have
sex a lot. And what kind of music do you like
having sex to? S: Doesn't matter just as long as
I'm having it. What about the music scene
today? R: We are gonna rule it! Are you the
only group out there? S: No, there are a lot of
groups out there; we're the only one with spirit,
though. I guess we're young, dumb, and full of
cum. What groups do you like playing with?
S: Jon the Conquerer, the Loose Lips, the Flakes.
C: The Cutz are a great group. One of the coolest
new bands is Flogging Molly. Would you guys
like to play with groups like that or with a
different music setting? S: It doesn't matter.
We'll play with anybody-just playing gigs is
enough, and if people dig it, then all right. It
makes it much more pleasurable if people are
dancing and shakin' to it, but if not, oh well. You
have a 7" out; anything else? S: We have a new
split with the Upsets out now called "Junkie
Queen" on Palado Records. Any future albums?
S: A full length is gonna come out within a year
or so. What was your first 7" on? S: Wick's
World #1. "Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy." Thanks,
Kevin, for being the only one to think we were
worth putting out. Ray Bomber, why do you
play the drums? R: 'Cause Shea Rocker taught
me. S: 'Cause we made him! C: Someone had to
play the drums when Will Shaft-her moved back
to LA after we got evicted from the Richmond.
Ray Bomber was kind of our manager, so he had
to play. Shea Rocker, why do you play the
guitar? S: I was supposed to be the singer of
the group, but Chris B made me play guitar
because Sweet Dick was singing at the time. But
now I play both, so I am satisfied. Chris B, why
do you play the bass? C: Because I can't make
any chords on the guitar. Do you like being a
three-piece? S: A three-piece is good, but I
want to have some tambourine players, a key-
board player, and some black chicks singing in
the background. But a three-piece is the way to
go. Do you feel like you go down an average
road with your music? S: We are too trashy.
C: What do you mean down an average road?
Like in the same pattern set. C: Well, there are
only three chords you can follow, but it doesn't
mean you can't abuse those chords. What about
extra? S: We have a little talent, but we just fuck
around and drink too much. That makes a
band sometimes. C: That makes the Richmond
Sluts with a little bit of other shit. So you
guys are gonna hit it pretty strong and
grow pretty well? S: I don't know. I like what
we are doing, but I don't know if anybody else
likes it. C: Of course, man; that's rock 'n' roll.
