            HEADS SATVA LEUNG
W
HAT WAS YOUR FIRST
board like?
A blue banana board. It
learned how to carve on
my back deck in Mendocino when I was in
fifth grade. Thanks, Mom.
What kind of name is Satva?
It comes from Buddhism. It basically means
enlightenment. I grew up in Humboldt, man,
come on.
Were your parents hippies?
We used to live in a VW bus when I was like
one year old. I got a scar on my forehead from
that bus-you know when you're little and you
learn how to run? I ran right into the door.
Are you a rebel?
With a cause.
HAS HIS OWN MINI WEBSITE
Best pick-up line?
Tú eres tan linda como una diosa; me pien-
sas que tú eres de un otro mundo.
Why do you have a website?
I don't have a website; I work at Fusion.com.
We sell skate, snow, surf products to kids all
over the world; it is pretty cool. They built me
out a mini site that has some pictures and
background info on me. Go to the Fusion.com
under skate and check it out. You can also go
to satvaleung.com and check it.
What do you do at Fusion.com?
You name it, I do it. I am the skateboard.
product manager. I order all skateboard prod-
uct and make sure it gets loaded properly onto
the site with the correct images and descrip-
tions. I am also in charge of the content and
Ledge or stairs?
Ledge down stairs.
Who would win a DJ battle between you,
Muska, and Kien Lieu?
Muska is more into producing beats and
Donger is pretty good, but I think I could take
them out.
Have your finger flip tricks improved
since you've started DJing?
No, they've digressed because now I have
carpooltunnel vision.
How'd you lose your tooth?
In a battle with the vert ramp. Got a
fake one and broke that one out at
Powell warehouse.
Do you miss working on Thrasher videos?
I especially miss editing in Schmitty's attic with
DYNASTY
FLE
Left to right: Satva came all the way from Humboldt,
CA, to bust this frontside crooked in the City by the
Bay. Leung-lens portrait. Switch-flip noseslide.
Describe your dream spot.
Brown Marble, Union Square, and Santa
Rosa combined in one in Puerto Rico.
When did you go to Puerto Rico?
After Tampa in March.
What was the best part of the trip?
The worst?
I had a lot fun skating around Old San
Juan and going out to clubs. It is really
good there for skateboarding: tons of
spots, really cool people, and good
weather. The worst was probably driving
around in this van with no seats or win-
dows. Alfredo was a great host though.
Thanks, Alfredo.
How do Puerto Rican women compare to
San Franciscan ones?
Natural beauty, boy. They don't have pasty
white make-up, leather outfits, and they're not
out to get you.
team. Basically anything that has do with
skateboarding on the website, I deal with.
How many chicks have you nailed from
the site?
Check the site. Girls, send in your pictures!
What's the best website you've come across?
I just checked out antix.com; it's a pretty
cool site.
Decribe your set-up?
At the moment I am riding a Dynasty
Spencer Fujimoto board with 126 Indys,
Pig 52mm wheels, and Shorty's hardware
and bearings.
Favorite vert skater?
Bobo.
Pier or library?
Both are fun; I like the library better but you
get kicked out.
Best switch trick?
Switch double 360° flips; ask Greg Hunt.
4 gigs of memory on his Jenkins computer.
If you could only listen to one album for
a whole year, what would it be?
Thrasher Skate Rock!
Do you have any hard feelings toward
Toy Machine?
No, I am still cool with Ed and all those
guys. I just thought it was kind of lame
because I rode for them for like three
years, filmed a bunch of video parts,
went on tons of tours, and Ed still could-
n't turn me pro. I was living here in high
rent San Francisco working at Zante
Pizza scraping to get by, and I had an
offer to turn pro for Maple. It was either
get paid for skateboarding and just be
able to skate or work at a pizza job and
get the runaround from Ed. What are you
going do, eh?
