NN BERETTA IS A THREE-PIECE CLASSIC PUNK BAND FROM RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
Their music is marked by dual vocals, rockabilly influence, and unexpected subtlety in their
arrangements. Formed in September 1996, they released records on Fueled by Ramen
Records before signing to Berkeley's Lookout! Records in 1999.
What do you think people should
know about your record...for all
our fallen heroes?
Robbie: That it's great, they should
buy it, and they should love it.
Anything specific?
Robbie: We're really proud of it. It's
definitely a progression from our last
record, and hopefully it will be a lot eas-
ier to find because it's out on Lookout!
and the distribution is much better. Bill
and Stephen from All helped us and
mixed it. We also had some friends from
other bands help us out with the record;
Tim from Avail and Johnny from the
Swingin' Udders sing on it. They're just
better-written songs.
Are you covering Cheap Trick's
"Surrender" on this record?
Robbie: Yeah. When we first started
the band, we covered that song just for
kicks. Back in Richmond we went on
this karaoke rampage four or five
nights a week, and my friend Tim and I
would always do a duet of "Surrender."
So when we were recording the record,
we were just dicking around in the stu-
dio and we threw it down; then we
called Tim in to sing. It was just for
fun, but it came out pretty well, so we
put it on the record.
Do you talk to a lot of girls while
you're out on tour?
Robbie: No one talks to us on tour. We
show up, we play, and we try to hang
out, but I guess we look like we don't
want to be bothered or we're really
pissed off all the time. I don't know, but
no one talks to us. They just look at us
like we're fools and walk away. So no,
girls don't talk to us, but just for the
record, next time we come to some
town your town, whatever town-
ladies, talk to us. That would be good.
Is there anyone out there who just
needs a huge "fuck off"?
Matt: Oh, there are so many.
Robbie: Now you have us-this is
something we can talk about. I'll go
first. Our old bass player's name was
Danny (this was two bass players
ago), but we called him Deebo
because he was such a dumbass. He
thought the name was cool. We
kicked him out of the band. So then
he robbed my house with one of his
friends while I was gone, and then
he showed up at a bar and tried to
beat me up, and then I got put in jail
over it.
Matt: He got his.
Robbie: He did get his in the end, but
that guy gets a big "fuck you" from me.
Matt: We'll do this just for fun: Larry Floyd.
Because?
Just 'cause.
