HEADS KENNY REED
W
HERE DID YOU
come from?
Upstate New
York, Sleepy
Hollow Ichabod Crane High School.
Where are you going?
I'm not very sure; hopefully some-
where nice. No, I don't care.
Why skating?
I just fell into it. It trapped
me. There's not much else I
think about.
Macy's or Target?
I'm not really a shopper.
Buying more stuff is kind of
stupid; there's already so much
stuff out there.
started skating?
I would be very far from here.
Favorite Thrasher cover?
Frankie Hill.
IS FROM SLEEPY HOLLOW
How does one get involved with
the skate/art scene in SF?
Get some Dickies, a studded
belt, and some tattoos. I don't
know, live in the Mission.
What happened when you and
Cairo went to Philly? What
happened with Stevie and
Love Park?
Nothing happened. I like
Philly. I like Stevie. I love
Love Park.
Why do you think some skaters
would be on the team?
A course of action I would.
suggest is a course of action I
can't suggest.
Who is your favorite ex-pro
and why?
Barker Barrett, because of his
foot placement.
Who is your favorite pro besides
yourself named Kenny?
The grass is always greener on the
other side.
If you had to battle for the
name Kenny in skateboarding,
who would win and why?
Six of one, half dozen of the
other. It's better to light a candle
Left to right:
When Kenny's not spouting clichés you can
find him noseblunt sliding the barriers at the
new EMB. Kenny practices his stroke. Long
frontslider at the super-secret schoolyard spot.
Do you think you'll ever
quit smoking?
I hope so, really I do, but I can't
tell. I keep thinking I'll
get to this point where I can
control myself. Then I just rebel.
What's your favorite thing about
San Francisco?
The feeling of skating downtown
with my friends.
If you could only listen to one
album for an entire year, what
would it be?
I'm usually not very interested
in music, but sometimes I like
Pink Floyd The Wall.
Favorite book?
Ulysses by James Joyce.
What would you be doing
right now if you had never
become sensitive and emo-
core, some become punk rock
or hessian, and some turn to
hip-hop? And do you fit into
any of those categories?
Humans tend to gather into
little groups and feel normal
together or feel not normal
together. I'm no psychologist,
but when you look into
people's pasts, there's some
sort of common denominator
within subcultures.
If you had to move to another
country for one year, alone,
where would you go?
I can't be clear when clarity is
exactly what I want to avoid.
If you started a shoe company,
what would you call it and who
than to curse the darkness.
Do you have/want a girlfriend?
Can't live with 'em, can't live
without 'em. But really I'd rather
not have one right now.
What are the three best tricks
and who does them the best?
1. The fakie ollie by Bobby Puleo
because it's postmodern.
2. Backside tricks by Ethan Fowler
because of character.
3. The push by whoever, because I
like watching people push.
Best use of music in a
video part?
Ohio Skateout, Neil Blender.
"Captain."
Do you know Paul Zuanich?
What do you think of him?
Sure.-Terry Gation
