I've been reading your mag since
'93 and skating since I was six. My
first skateboard was an old-school
Maple. I got really good at skating,
but when I turned 14 years old in
'98 I got locked up. I'm 16 now and
I I get out when I'm 21; I got juvenile
life. I'm locked up with a bunch of
1990 peckerwoods and Gs, but I'm
ZERO

friends with all the peckerwoods
even though I'm Asian. Some of the
Gs say I can't be a skater because
I'm Asian and skating's only for
white people. I say bullshit. Look at
Lil'
B, Toan Nguyen, Daewon Song,
Bob Burnquist, Ray Barbee, Ninja
Performance skate products, Sergie
Ventura, Lincoln Ueda, Cairo
Foster, etc. Skateboarding is for
everyone. I'm Korean American and
proud of it. I let everyone here
know I'm a skater. I show off the
fingerboard I ordered from your
mag and the skaters of different
races you show. Now Gs want to
order a fingerboard and meet Lil' B.
but I listened to Puff Daddy and
Notorious BIG and 2Pac until one
morning I got out of bed and had
this sudden urge to get on a skate-
board and roll down the ave. There
was only one problem: I was a "sol-
dier homie-G" dude. What did I do?
I suddenly realized that rap, or hip-
hop, or whatever you want to call it,
sucked. All it is is a continuous beat.
with some bender boring us with his
life and then some woman going
"oooouuuuhhhhaaahhhh". during
the chorus. So I quit all the bullshit
and started skating. It was hard at
first but pretty soon I got the hang
of the ollie, and I've been skating
and destroying since. Ever since
that day, my life has improved dra-
matically. I'm much happier being a
skater now than a soldier, and I
don't know what I saw in "homie-
Gism" in the first place. I'm OK
now, and my best trick is a frontside
heelflip. Big ups to you guys at
Thrasher. Keep up the good work.
You're the number-one skate
