F YOU KNOW WHERE THIS BAND GOT THEIR NAME,
you are probably already on the right track and should defi-
nitely give them a listen. A couple of years ago, people were
Iwondering what happened to the killer punk rock and roll in
America, but today people have their answer in so many good
bands. The Streetwalkin' Cheetahs are leading the pack and bris-
tled when I suggested that the Europeans might have something
going for them.
From LA, they have been around a couple of years and put out
some killer singles and an amazing split with the Bell Rays (this
is the third millennium, man, and if you want to know what they
got, check their web site), as well as touring the US. If you don't
like a free-for-all good time and getting beer spilt on you, I sug-
gest you stay home and watch Wheel of Fortune reruns. But if you
dig high energy, top volume hi-jinx, go to the show and you won't
be disappointed. They recently came through my neck of the
woods and I had the chance to sling a few questions at them.
They are Art Jackson on guitar, Frank Meyer on vocals and gui-
tar, Mike Sessa on drums, and Dino Everett on bass.

Why didn't the split with the Bell Rays come out
on vinyl?
Art: Because 90% of the assholes who buy music don't own
a turntable. Besides, who wants music that actually sounds
good anyway?
Where do you like to play? What is the shittiest show
you've ever played?
Frank: SF and Denver are two of our favorite places to play.
Art: I like to play where they give me food and beer and
money. Picking the shittiest show ever is like picking the pretti-
est girl at the Alabama Bucktooth White Trash Girl pageant. It
can't be done.
Dino: The only shitty gigs are when we get there and it's can-
celled. Oh, and when I break bones, that sucks too. I'm a human
catastrophe, but the best ones are where people get so crazy
they're throwing beer on us and dancing and singing along. This
usually happens in San Francisco and Denver.
Stiv Bators or Sid Vicious?
Frank: Stiv Bators, for sure. He had talent and looked cool.
Sid just looked cool.
Art: Stiv Vicious.
Have you ever met Iggy Pop? Does he know you exist?
Dino: I met Iggy twice in the '70s. Once was great because
my friend looked like Joan Jett, and Iggy was playing this show
(this was '79) and my friend told him that he came just to see
Joan. So when he came out onstage, he lunged at her and
flipped her off. Then after the gig he was backstage and
dropped his pants, and the bouncer beat him up. The next day I
got a call from my friend who put on the show and asked if I
could drive Iggy to the airport. I said no. I was punk. I've made
a lot of bad decisions in my life.
Why didn't you play that Flamin' Groovies song like
I asked?
Art: Unlike Lawrence Welk, we don't take requests.
Say something stupid about skateboarding for the kids.
Dino: My first board was a fucking Bahne and it weighed a
ton. Then I got a fibreflex with green Kryptonics. I rode goofy-
foot, so all of my friends would bag on me. The best thing was I
got to ride pools at a park with Tony Alva once. Have I dated
myself yet? I'm talking '70s here, kids. One of my old bands has
a song in a skate video from the early '80s called Splendid Eye
Torture. The video, that is. I won't tell you the band.
