HIS ΤΟΥ
Machine debacle,
Bam Margera has
found a new home
A Trash
on Element. He's
also kicking buddies in the guts
with Adio shoes.
Bam's new teammate on both teams,
Jeremy Wray, is taking some time out to
have knee surgery.
Although he no longer has a board spon-
sor, Jerry Fowler was picked up for the
FKD bearings program.
Frank Garcia Hirata's new company is
called Optimus and presently features a ros-
ter of just Frank.
After some minor juggling, Kerry Getz
switched from the éS shoe program to Etnies.
Etnies team manager Sasha Steinhorst
reports, "Total stokage!" on the switch as well as
Kerry's recent Tampa pro win.
Moses Itkonen has also made a shoe jump,
from DC to Duffs, with a pro shoe likely on the
way. Duffs rail wrangler, Matt "Mums"
Mumford, is back in Australia to skate and
attend the wedding of Chad Bartie.
In car news, Geoff Rowley had his BMW
snatched from a local HB car wash as it was in
the vacuuming stage; it was later smashed to
shit by the crazed driver and some of HB's
finest. Finnish Princess Arto Saari recently
earned his driver's license as well as a new

BMW, which he carts Geoff around in while
Geoff's ride is getting repaired.
Following her video game windfall, Elissa
Steamer swapped her Dodge Neon for a Toyota
4-Runner. Warner Mobster Shane Heyl can now
be seen cruising to the Ashtray in the Neon.
In what some might call the end of an era, a
good chunk of the infamous Warner Ave Mob
has gone Hollywood-moving from Huntington.
Beach up to the mean streets of LA. Who
knows what life changes await them? A model-
ing contract for Ellington? Acting parts for
Elissa? A new wild hairstyle for Jeff Lenoce?
Only time will tell.
HOLLYWOOD CHUCKS
All hail the revenge of "Mister Lucky." Steve
Olson, the former world professional skateboard
champion turned musician turned model turned
actor turned videographer turned director, has
apparently turned again. It appears that Steve has
agreed to function as excite.com's human
icon/spokesperson. Expect to see Olson appear-
ing in print, radio, and video as the fictional char-
acter Mister Lucky over the next few years.
Sources claim that Bulky will be paid about
$250,000 to start his career as Lucky.
Think Skateboards stuff

film release Whatever it Takes.

claim to have neither any interest in or clue as
to how this rather blatant product placement
occurred. However, Keith Cochrane has
been conspicuously silent about this public
exposure. Could the reason be that Cochrane
is now represented by a front-line Los
Angeles-based PR firm?
Trevor Musselman, the highly respected
Venice, CA rider of multi surfaces, perished in
large surf at Oahu's Banzai Pipeline. Trevor's
board was spotted ominously tombstoning on
the horizon following his going under during a
deep tube ride. His friend Stryder
Wasilewski attempted a rescue and at one
point actually had contact with Musselman
but was unable to hold onto his body when
another large cleanup set washed over
them. Chuck King and other photogra-
phers documented Trevor's last ride.
That footage was shared at a large
wake held in Venice. He is mourned by
all who knew him.
Quiksilver announced that it has
acquired Anthony Hawk as a team
rider and that it will also absorb his
Hawk clothing company. Rumor places
Tony's initial contract in the three
million dollar range.
Connected sources
relate that Hawk
negotiated long
and hard to
make certain that his sister Pat and his clothing
company personnel would be well taken care of
financially in the deal.
SUCK FIST
The cultural effrontery at Santa Monica's cultural
space New Image Art reached another pinnacle of cel-
ebratory aesthetic anatomical repro-sensuality. Their
presentation of Ed Templeton's latest exhibition is as
audacious as it is sanguine. Photographic images of in
flagrante nude mammals, teenage smokers, and land-
scapes meet Ed's scrawled philosophical musings and
abstract expressionistic emotionalism. A few amongst
the many at the well attended opening included Rick
Kosick, the Templetons, the Vallelys, Stanley
Somers, Steve Olson, Bruce Gilbert, Ian Rogers,
Zack De La Rocha, Anthony Ausgang, Michael C
McMillen, and Derrick "Skip" Engblom. Gallery
director Marsea Goldberg flaunted her vegan devo-
tion while wearing form-fitting, French cuffed ana-
conda-skin pants which she proudly proclaimed to "be
polyester." Even the proto feminists Cynthia
Connolly and Sista' Stukin appeared to question
either the attire or the assertion.
Estranged bedfellows Steve Rocco, Stacy Peralta,
and Paul Stukin were spotted at a remote Catalina.
Island resort, where they spent three days in what wit-
nesses categorized as "deep conversation." Cinema
watchers will note that at one point Rocco and Peralta
were visually vocal opponents in the skate market-
place. Later Stacy astounded many by directing com-
mercials for Steve. Stukin also produced several World
projects before going independent following a notori-
ous blowout. He recently was seen in Havana, Cuba at
a government reception filming with Fidel Castro.
Paul Stukin's office denied that he was on the isle with
the pair, claiming that "Mr Stukin was off working on
his long standing documentary of the Los Angeles B-
Dog Blood set." Was it somehow relevant that Rocco is
also in the process of selling off ten ultra luxe Range
Rover vehicles in Hawaii? The line is that Steve is
divesting himself of the rolling stock from his ill-fated
tropical rent-a-car business venture. Some claim that
the fact that Peralta was seen days after the meeting
piloting a shiny Rover is a coincidence.
BLOWN GASKET
With the vigorous interest coming from invaders of
the sport, many both within and outside the industry
ponder the economic scale of assorted enterprises.
Purported figures such as the estimated nine million
dollars gross and 65 thousand dollars net of the Powell
Skate One Corporation and the much rumored 400
million dollars gross yearly sales of Quiksilver help to
set the stage for more spirited debate. In this super-
heated atmosphere, can it be true that such leaders as
Fran Richards have taken to advising some manus
that the reality of the new situation is that certain
prime advertising spots in some "leading" magazines
"could never be afforded by hardgood companies"?
What exactly is a hardgood, you inquire? Translate that
business term into "skateboard."
Comparative wisdom? Gotcha, the sponsor of many
well known skate, surf, and snowboard personalities,
has had product show up on sale in the ubiquitous dis-
count chain Costco. And that lion of the European
fashion set Mossimo has just signed a deal to produce
his glad rags for the economy chain Target.
Mossimo, at the height of their "core marketing
strategy," was considered both a lucrative spon-
sor of athletes and a bona fide great investment
on the stock market. Now many doubt that even
the wholesale sellout to Target can save the eco-
nomically challenged firm.
CORP RATE

stand in their path. According to emphatically
well placed rumors, expect an E-marketing.
combine to emerge in the immediate future
that is comprised of several highly identifi-
able players and brands. Names like Tod.
Swank, Per Welinder, Frank Messman,
Alien Workshop, Birdhouse, Hook-ups,
Foundation, Schmitt, New Deal, World, Joe.
Bowers, Chris Carter, Toy Machine, The
Firm, Fury, etc. are being mentioned as possi-
ble participants. It is said that Swank's old
Web domain may be the site of this unified
commercial assault.
The Wall Street Journal, CNN, the New York
Times, Newsweek, Time, and the bulk of the
cyber press has been fascinated lately with
the dropping on the net of free software
known as Gnutella. It is said that this code-
free and community-owned insidious soft-
ware can easily allow anyone to obtain free
music, free movies, and free porn, as well as
any other program type info of their choosing
off the Internet. Investigators representing
the richest and most powerful entities on the
planet are doggedly investigating both the lin-
eage and specific identities of the perpetra-
tors of this revolutionary technological
breakthrough. Gnutella.nerdherd.net might
connect interested parties to the unofficial
bootleg site. AOL has been especially pissed
off. In fact, they have reportedly focused on
with
individuals once allegedly associated
Nullsoft. For no apparent reason, Ian Rogers,
the one-time Beastie Boy and Jim Evans
confidante, is under suspicion. Rogers, who is
well known in skate circles as being the care-
taker of Zoie's Ramp near Camp Wildwood
outside of Fernwood, California, proclaims
that he is innocent of any and all crimes.
Friends of the suspect report that lan for
a time dated both Winona Ryder
and Drew Barrymore, and
claimed that he did not know
either one was an actress.
