OW HIGH CAN YOU
ollie?" has always
been the question
of the day (although "Are you
sponsored?" seems to be gain-
ing some ground as of late),
and it's a testament to the
non-competitive nature of
skaters that there have been
only three professional high-
ollie contests.
The Reese Forbes $10,000
High Ollie Challenge was a big
improvement over the hastily-
devised stick-and-peg events
of trade shows past, and dudes
were serious when it came to
launching into the record
books and a new tax bracket.
Rob Gonzalez, Jake Stewart,
Brian Young, and Stacy Lowery
all made the finals, but the real
pop-off was between Danny
Wainwright and the Forbinator
himself. Forty-four and one-half
inches later, Danny was the
champion of the world.
