Dear Thrasher,
My name is Brian Volz. I am a 23-year-old Midwest
skater. I went to college at Southwest Missouri State
University; while I was there I skated the most fun place, known as "the
Ditch," located behind Wal-mart on S Campbell in Springfield, MO. Before I
arrived it consisted of just two hips; then I got the idea to make something
permanent, so I asked my dad, an iron worker, to build me some railslide bars.
A few months later we added the box, and next came the 14-footer, built by
a local blues musician named King Clarance. These four bars are set up so
that if you're good enough and fast enough, you can hit all four in a row both
ways. The Ditch will live forever.
