Silverthorne, Co
Where: Silverthorne, a ski resort town in the mountains of Colorado.
What: Yet another free Colorado concrete park built by the good
folks from Team Pain. The park features a square bowl with a spine,
metal coping, several bowled corners, escalators, hips, a pyramid
with a connecting pump-bump "leg," ledges, handrails, banks, and a
tight quarterpipe wall with pool coping.
Good: Smooth concrete, perfect transitions, good mix of street and
tranny with lots of lines, good coping (especially the pool coping).
Located between a recreation center with indoor waterslides and hot
tubs and a city park with barbecue grills. Also, it's a five-minute drive
from the new Breckenridge bowl.
Bad: Snow and freezing temperatures November through March.
Pads: No pads or helmets required as of yet.
Locals: Old slash dog gnarlers, some tech kids, lots of snow-bros,
little kids on bikes, very few bladers.
Crash-Up Derby Factor: 5.5 out of 10, and watch out for
snow-bro fly-outs.
Beer Factor: 9 out of 10 in the barbecue/beer garden area.
Directions: One hour west of Denver on I-70. Take the
Silverthorne exit and follow the signs to the recreation area.
Overall: A smart, innovative, and highly skateable park design.
8.5 out of 10.-Justin Hocking
Left: Out of the triple-black-diamond bowl in
Lincoln City, OR, the 'Neck launches upstream.
Above: Butterfly's-eye view of Colorado's latest
concrete monster.
Right: If the coping were set back any further,
Justin Hocking's wheels would have slipped out
and turned this 5-0 into a head injury.
