Steve Alba, skateboarding pioneer
and longterm resident of the area,
said, "Parks have come and gone,
and Baldy's still one of the best
spots around."
East of Baldy Pipe is LA County,
where the tax is 8.25% and the free-
ways are crowded; west of Baldy is
the cowboy county of San
Bernardino. The city of San
Bernardino, in San Bernardino
County, is just as economically chal-
lenged as its neighbor Fontana.
However, it does provide much more
opportunity for skateboarding than
its hick counterparts. The downtown
area is where the primary street spots
are. This is also the case ten minutes
south in the city of Riverside (and in
virtually every other metro area in
the world).
Redlands is the oasis of the San
Bernardino area. The city has been
skillfully planned, with palm trees
lining almost every street. The
architecture is old and original, not
the 1980s tract-home nightmare
most of Southern California has
become. It is rich in skateboard tal-
ent, and the skaters of the area are
cleverly known as "the San
Bernardino guys." These guys are a
bunch of partiers-the motley
crew consists of Quinn
Montgomery (someone you'll defi-
nitely hear more of), Josh Neher,

The San Bernardino guys are the east
chapter of the IE Click.
The IE Click is a group of skaters
that was formed in the early to mid
1990s. At one time you could count
on one hand the number of skate-
boarders in this area. Since the skate
population was so small, the group
that appropriated Chaffey High
School as its training ground became
known as the IE Click. This group
consists of Joey Brazinski, Freddy
Bajorquez, Richard Mulder, Jason Schmidt,
little Girl Robbie McKinley, horsehair Steve
Esslinger, buttery Ray Barbee, JP Jadeed,
Markus Stroud, Tommi Cahill, the Reeses,
