divorced, so I ended up staying with my mother
in California and my father lives in Europe.
What was it like skating in Sanger?
Tough to find spots. But all the spots we had
were close by.
You'd been pro for a while for
Consolidated and yet people still didn't
know who you were even though you
were ripping. Do you think coming out of
the valley is like coming from a whole
different place in the world?
Some people can handle seeing a dead grand-
mother crawling up their leg with a knife in her
teeth, but I'm not like that.
When did you start skating?
In 1986. I saw Back to the Future in 1985 when
I was living in Fort Ord. Then I moved to Sanger
and got a skateboard for Christmas. It was a Back
to the Future board. I was inspired by the guy
skating hanging onto the back of cars, and now
that's me.
I heard about that. What happened yesterday?
I got run over by a car. I was shooting photos
with Luke, getting pulled by a car and trying to
launch out of this loading dock embankment
over a huge barrel. We were trying to launch
over Frankie, who was driving at first, but that
didn't go well. I think that's why he ran me over.
The back wheel sucked my front foot under the
tire and just pulled me down.
How fast were you going?
Thirty miles an hour. We wrote a song about
the spot where I landed, which was blue carpet.
It's called "Blue Carpet Coming At My Face At
30 Miles an Hour."
So you recently moved to Fresno; how do
you like it?
My roommate Lars and I came up with Alan. I
like it a lot. I live right by the school I go to, which
is Fresno City College.
How old are you?
Twenty.
When did you start getting hooked up?
In 1996, and I had a lot of help from Alan
Petersen. He was getting me out there with
Consolidated, and he got me on Spitfire
and Thunder, just by word of mouth.
Thanks, Alan
Were you a skatepark kid?
I went to them. I wouldn't say I'm a skatepark
kid, because I skate everything.
Did you grow up skating more street
or tranny?
Street, but I had three ramps at three
different times when I was young. My first
ramp was a four-foot mini with a foot of
vert, in my backyard.
What do you do when you're not skating?
What is there to do?
What are you studying in school?
Electronics. I want to be an electronic tech-
nician. I recently found out they make more
money than engineers. And electronics is an
industry that has a lot of demand for work. I
love skateboarding so much that
I would never want to depend on
skateboarding my whole life just
to live. One day I want to do it
"THE BACK WHEEL
SUCKED MY FRONT FOOT
UNDER THE TIRE AND
JUST PULLED ME DOWN"
Left: Aint no trip, he loves to flip.
Over the bar at Batman angles.
Right: It aint no bail, check out
this rail. Frontside slider out of
the trees and into your lap.
