Dear Kristian,
I'm afraid that, although my
intentions were nothing but
good, I have not been totally
honest with you in putting
together this interview. When I
told you, "Yeah, everybody does
their interview in one week," I
wasn't just stretching the
truth. I was lying. No, Daewon
did not complete his whole
interview in one afternoon; that
was a lie too. Truth is, some
people take weeks to do their
interviews. Heck, at some of
the other mags, I hear it can
take years! I'd also like to apol-
ogize for the incident the other
day at the giant rail. It was
unfair of me to scream at you,
"Just do it, idiot!" And it was
completely inappropriate for me
to tell you that you had a one-
roll-of-film allowance for the
entire sequence. I hope you are
recovering well from all your
injuries and, like the doctors, I
too am optimistic that the
swelling will not be permanent.
Congratulations on your entry
into the pro world. I just know
you'll be spectacular and that
you have a long, bright career
ahead of you. I hope this interview
provides you some comfort as your
body heals, and don't hesitate to call
me up to go shoot as soon as you're
recovered. OK, buddy?

HOW YOU SAID THAT
when you were in junior high you
dreamed about having a pro interview
someday, and how you'd tell everyone
at your school what you thought of them?
Yeah, I remember.
Tell me about that.
In high school, I didn't have such a good time with my
classmates. I used to sit on the bus with my headphones on
and look out the window.
What was in those headphones?
Probably some kind of raging punk rock or death
metal blasting in my ears.
What were you going to say to those kids?
I'd just tell 'em off.
Wasn't skating cool at your school?
Definitely not when I was in high
school. I graduated in 1993, and
it really wasn't cool. I got
made fun of a lot.
